IPL Mid-Season Transfer: 3 Teams Who Can Target Vijay Shankar: IPL 2020 has proved to be a competition of equals so far. The Delhi Capitals are looking much more balanced as a team compared to the other franchises, whereas the Kings XI Punjab are still looking for that perfect team combination. The rest of the sides also have some strengths and some weakness.
The upcoming mid-season transfer window promises to be a game-changer for some franchises. Speaking of game-changers, the all-rounders will be in high demand during the mid-season transfer window. The Sunrisers Hyderabad have not used Vijay Shankar much in IPL 2020, and the other sides who are struggling with their team combination would love to have him in their team.
Here’s a look at the three teams who can go after Vijay Shankar in the mid-season transfer.
Kings XI Punjab
Kings XI Punjab have received much criticism from the fans and critics because they do not have a genuine all-rounder in the team. They have the options of Glenn Maxwell, Jimmy Neesham, Krishnappa Gowtham, and Chris Gayle, but none of them have solved KXIP’s problems. While the first three names have looked off-color, Gayle has not even got one chance to prove himself.
KXIP badly need an Indian middle order batsman who can also contribute with the ball and Vijay Shankar seems to be the perfect choice for that role. Shankar had represented the Indian team in the 2019 World Cup and can turn things around for Punjab in IPL 2020.
Chennai Super Kings
In case you did not know, Vijay Shankar was a part of the Chennai Super Kings for multiple seasons. However, CSK did not utilize his services much. Later, Shankar became a part of the Delhi Daredevils. In the trade window before IPL 2019, the Sunrisers Hyderabad gained the all-rounder’s services.
Shankar could return to CSK in IPL 2020 if both the franchises agree. CSK need someone who can play the big strokes in the slog overs. Vijay Shankar can do that job. His availability would ensure that Sam Curran and DJ Bravo also play without much pressure. Shankar could be a good replacement for Kedar Jadhav in the CSK playing XI.
The Rajasthan Royals need a solid number four batsman who can anchor the innings if the trio of Jos Buttler, Steve Smith, and Sanju Samson fails. Mahipal Lomror has done a fine job, but the team had high hopes from Robin Uthappa. Perhaps, Vijay Shankar could do that job for RR now.
The inaugural IPL winners will gain the services of Ben Stokes on Saturday but even then they should go for Shankar because he can bat at number four and give two-three overs of right-arm medium pace to the team. Ben Stokes could bat at number five with Mahipal Lomror at number six. The aforementioned batting order will be perfect for the Rajasthan Royals. Smith and Buttler should continue opening the innings with Samson backing them up at number 3.
Vijay Shankar can prove to be an asset for KXIP, RR, and CSK in the second half of IPL 2020. It will be interesting to see if any of these three teams could sign him in the window.
