Ziva Dhoni Receives Threat Online: Cricket is more than a game, it is an emotion that binds millions of people together. However, there’s no denying the fact that it is also the biggest catalyst when it comes to bringing out the toxic misogyny among men. Be it blaming Anushka Sharma for the failures of her cricketer husband to calling out cricketers for tagging their wives along with them on tours, every day we see trolls attacking the cricketers and their families for one reason or the other.
However, today we saw a new low. Ziva Dhoni, the 5-year-old daughter of former Indian skipper MS Dhoni, received rape and death threats on social media after MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings lost their match in the ongoing 13th edition of the Indian Premier League.
MS Dhoni, who has been a batting mainstay for CSK for a long time, hasn’t been able to set his feet in the ongoing IPL 2020. A man who has given so many proud moments to the sport that you love is not able to give the best of his capabilities and this is how you treat him.
This is the first time in many years, that CSK is not at the top 3 of the points table. Unhappy with the results, few unruly cricket fans took to social media, especially the Instagram account of MS Dhoni, and posted horrible messages for Dhoni and didn’t spare his family members as well. The vilest of all messages were rape threats to his 5-year-old daughter Ziva Dhoni. All of this, only because CSK lost a match? But what was the fault of Ziva Dhoni in all this?
This abuse and vileness on social media from hate-filled cricket followers led to many people to come out and take a stand against this inhuman act. Infact, former Indian cricketer Irfan Pathan also took to his twitter and rebuked those who posted such comments for the 5yo. He wrote:
“All the players giving their best, sometimes it just doesn’t work but it’s doesn’t give any one any authority to give a threat to a young child #mentality #respect”
