Lanka Premier League 2020: As a new franchise tournament in the island nation has started flapping its wings, Colombo Kings have so far had a busy signing schedule that has seen them signing a few big names of T-20 cricket. Erstwhile Sri Lankan skipper, Angelo Matthews, West Indian muscle man, Andre Russell, and former South African skipper, Faf Du Plessis was roped in by Colombo Kings for the maiden edition of Lanka Premier League.
Matthews will be the local icon to bolster the internal ranks of this team while the inclusion of Faf and Russell will add strength to the hitting department of the squad. The Colombian franchise also signed the likes of former Indian cricketers like Manpreet Gony and Manvinder Bisla who were involved with IPL winning sides.
World Cup-winning coach, Dav Whatmore who was responsible for training the team in their glory year in 1996 that saw the nation claiming the crown of the world will also be a part of the Colombian franchise’s coaching unit. Apart from Sri Lanka, Whatmore has coached the likes of Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Zimbabwe.
Amongst other big names to be signed by the Lankan Premier League 2020, Kushal Janith was onboarded by Kandy Tuskers as the local icon while the foreign signings included Chris Gayle and Liam Plunkett. The team will be coached by Hashan Tilakaratne.
Galle Gladiators will be glad to have Lasith Malinga as the local icon while Shahid Afridi and Colin Ingram will be the two overseas names to bolster their reinforcements. The team will be coached by former Pakistan wicket-keeper, Moin Khan.
Dashun Shanaka will be the local icon for Dambulla Hawks while David Miller and Carlos Braithwaite take the field as foreign signings. The team will be under the chaperonage of Jon Lewis.
Jaffna Stallions will be boasting of Thisara Perera as their local star while Dawid Malan and Wanindu Hasaranga will be gracing the team as foreign signings.
The draft was held online that enlisted the attendance of IPG CEO, Anil Mohan, SLC VP Ravin Wickramaratne, SLC CEO, Ashley De Silva, owners of the different franchises, and the coaches.
The Lanka Premier League is slated to be convened from November 21st to December 13th, 2020 at two venues, Pallakele International Stadium in Kandy and Mahinda Rajapaksa International Cricket Stadium in Hambantota. Over a 15-day period, the teams will indulge them in a cricketing fiesta that will witness 23 games.
