Former England skipper Michael Vaughan is really worried about the form of Delhi Capitals opener Prithvi Shaw. Shaw had made an unbelievable start to his international career, scoring a century against West Indies. But his career so far has been inconsistent to say the least. The same inconsistency was seen in the IPL 2020 season.
In the first five games, Prithvi Shaw got his team off to fantastic starts, scoring 179 runs which included two fifties. However, in his last five innings, he has only managed to score 30 runs. He has been so unimpressive that he has been replaced by Ajinkya Rahane at the top of the order. Vaughan is of the opinion that if Prithvi Shaw does not pull his socks up and does not get serious about his career, he might soon be in a league of players who promised a lot but did not deliver.
“I know T20 is a very risky format, but best players still are very consistent. They manage to get scores after scores after scores. Shaw is not coming to a party regularly enough. When I hear he is not even going to the ground, he needs a little bit of a breather, that is a concern for me. Is he as good as everyone has said,” Vaughan said
“Sometimes a player is put on the pedestal a little bit too soon, I am not saying that it is Prithvi Shaw at this moment. But if he does not come to the party soon, he might not be as good as everyone said he is. Shaw is not playing those wonderful innings consistently to be in this team,” he further added.
With Ajinkya Rahane too not firing, there is a chance that the Delhi Capitals might look back at Prithvi Shaw and give him an opportunity to prove himself. Shaw will have to make the most of his opportunity given that it is now the business end of IPL 2020.
