MS Dhoni led Chennai Super Kings spoiled the party for Kolkata Knight Riders by winning KKR’s must-winning match by six wickets. While Nitish Rana was the backbone of KKR’s batting line as he smashed splendid 87 off 61, on the other hand, 23-year-old Ruturaj Gaikwad became the hero of the Super Kings as he played a powerful knock and helped his team win the match.
Playing a stunning knock, Gaikwad scored 72 runs off 53 balls, hitting 6 fours and 2 sixes. This was Ruturaj’s second consecutive half-century to lead his team to victory against KKR. In their previous match, he had scored an unbeaten 65 to lead his team to victory over Virat Kohli-led Royal Challengers Bangalore.

After the match, the CSK skipper MS Dhoni was all praises for the young talent in his team. During the post-match presentation ceremony, MS Dhoni revealed the reason why Ruturaj wasn’t included in the first few games. He said:
“We’d seen him in the nets sessions but unfortunately for him, he came (to Dubai) and tested positive for COVID. Usually you get well in 12 or 10 days, it took him 20 days. SO there wasn’t much time for us to look at him. Unfortunate, but he’ll remember this season because he was able to showcase the talent he has,”
Calling him one of the most talented youngsters around, MS Dhoni showered praises on Ruturaj. He said:
“He’s one of the most talented youngsters around. What makes it difficult is he’s not somebody who speaks a lot. So sometimes it becomes difficult for the management to gauge a player. Once he started going in the innings, you could see that he was hitting the ball the way he wants.”
“When we made him play the first game, he got out after stepping out. It was difficult to tell whether it was pressure that made him step out or whether that’s his natural game. One ball isn’t enough, I think it is very exciting how he has grabbed his chances.”
Furthermore, MS Dhoni stated that the tournament has given them glimpses of who all can play for them in the future. He revealed:
“It is very important to be relevant in the tournament. It was very important for us to give it our best. We are not in a position to qualify for the next stage but we have had a glimpse of people who can play for us in the coming seasons.”
