Rohit Sharma’s omission from the Indian squad for the upcoming tour to Australia next month has left his fans stunned. The decision has also raised a number of questions and speculations. Among the many questions, the presence of Rohit Sharma in the remainder of Mumbai Indians’ games in the ongoing IPL 2020 has made it to the top.
Well, it was quite evident that Rohit Sharma isn’t well as he had missed the last couple of Mumbai Indians’ matches. The franchise had released a statement giving an update on the injury and stated that the skipper is recovering well. The franchise had also hinted that Rohit is close to returning to action.
For the unversed, Rohit Sharma had sustained the injury during the match against Kings XI Punjab, which had gone into a double Super Over. Rohit Sharma hasn’t played any games after that game.
BCCI’s decision of not including Rohit Sharma in the playing squad has left everyone confused. And what added more to the confusion was Mumbai Indians’ tweet, which was posted moments after BCCI announced the squad. In their tweet, Mumbai Indians announced on their social media pages that Rohit Sharma was back training again.
Meanwhile, in its press release, BCCI stated that their medical team would “continue to monitor [Rohit’s] progress”. BCCI secretary Jay Shah had said:
“The BCCI Medical Team will continue to monitor the progress of Rohit Sharma and Ishant Sharma,”
There was nothing mentioned about the injury or the recovery period, neither did Mumbai Indians’ released a statement giving updates about Rohit’s present health status.
While the BCCI medical team’s caution is understandable as this is the second time Rohit has injured his left leg. At the same time, it doesn’t imply that the door is shut on Rohit playing at some stage of the tour.
“If Rohit can play during the last week of IPL, that will be a good enough fitness test and then selectors can think of getting him back in the squad,” a source close to the cricketer told PTI on conditions of anonymity.
