It was been a great season for the Shreyas Iyer led Delhi Capitals so far. Delhi Capitals is the only team to have only lost one game off the 5 games they have played so far. On Monday, they achieved their biggest win in the IPL history of IPL when they defeated RCB by 59 runs.
After the big win, DC’s skipper Shreyas Iyer was in the mood to crack some jokes as he played the translator’s role for Man of the Match Axar Patel.
Axar, who was awarded the Man of the Match award for figures of 2/18 talked about his performance and revealed that it was his plan to bowl at the stumps and vary his pace every now and then in order to confuse the RCB batsmen. He revealed:
“I knew it was stopping on the wicket. I knew I would bowl in the powerplay and I had practiced for it as well. I think I executed my plans really well. My plan after speaking to batsmen was that since the wicket was slow, I wanted to bowl at the stumps and vary the pace. In the powerplay I was in a mood to defend at first, but when the third ball spun I changed gears and got into an attack mode,”
Translating his teammate, Shreyas Iyer jokingly took the credit after Axar didn’t say so at the post-match press conference. Shreyas said:
“Also, he said thanks to the captain,” , leaving Axar and presenter Pommie Mbangwa burst into laughter.
After their biggest win in the IPL history, Delhi Capitals stormed to the top of the points table (now MI is at the top). Shreyas Iyer also threw light on his strategy that worked well for Delhi Capitals. He said:
“Getting four out of five, I will take that any day. Kudos to the boys and the temperament shown in pressure situations. Our strategy was to be fearless and play with full freedom. We have got good youngsters in our side, so we just need to go out and execute our talent and skills. I am very happy with the way things are going so far, and we need to keep up the momentum,”
Meanwhile, the bowling changes made by Shreyas Iyer also impressed the batting legend Sachin Tendulkar, who took to his twitter and heaped praises on Shreyas. He wrote:
“@DelhiCapitals really bowled well. Smart bowling changes by @ShreyasIyer15 which didn’t allow the batsmen to get off to flying starts. @RCBTweets has a good batting line-up but were completely outplayed today,”
