Chennai has so far struggled miserably in this year’s IPL and the fate of their captain has been even more woeful. Mahendra Singh Dhoni was left desperate scouring for that right chord when he was dismissed for 10, failing for the umpteenth in the ongoing edition of the fray.
Chasing a steep total of 169 for 4, Chennai was off to a rocky start, thanks to some powered-up performance from Washington Sundar. After removing Du Plessis and Shane Watson in quick succession, Ambati Rayudu and Narayan Jagadeesan came together to stabilize a sinking ship for Chennai.
The duo did a decent job as they went on to add 64 runs for the third wicket before Jagadeesan was run out by Chris Morris. Dhoni walked into the middle, expecting to play that remarkable finishing role that he has always been proud about. However, nothing went according to plan as he failed to pick Yuzvendra Chahal and miscued his effort, holing out to Gurkeerat Singh.
His only remarkable knock in the tournament came against Sunrisers Hyderabad but that too went down the drain as the Orange army walked out victorious. He has struggled vehemently so far in the fray, trying to bring out the very best that we have seen in Dhoni always.
The scorching heat of Dubai has been overwhelming for his fitness while the sizes of the grounds laced with some tricky surfaces have bedevilled the former Indian captain. Even in games where he got the numbers backing him, the rate at which he has scored has been slower than a turtle, thereby hogging unwanted attention.
Twitter did not show any mercy on the Chennai captain after his umpteenth failure for Chennai. It is quite evident that the frustration is going.
Absolutely no issues Dhoni playing like this. Went on the attack early, nailed one, missed the other. Tough luck!
