Vintage MS Dhoni: IPL 2020 has given us a lot of new things to rejoice in, however, the human nature craves for the vintage. Despite the emergence of young guns who have embraced the impossible and has imposed a paradigm shift to the way we see the game, our hearts are not fulfilled without a blast from the past.
MS Dhoni has so far struggled in this tournament and has been trolled and criticized badly over social media. Despite the best of efforts from the former World Cup-winning captain, that final sting has always been missed.
Today was the day when Dhoni wanted to hit back at the haters. He chose a role for himself which would definitely underline the selfless character of the Indian skipper.
Dhoni walked out in the middle when Ambati Rayudu was dismissed. It was a critical situation as it needed a commanding knock in the middle. He took his time and then started peppering the bowlers in his old fashion that used to terrorize the bowlers at one point in time.
However, the magic happened in the 5th ball of the 19th over. Natarajan wanted to stun the former Indian captain with a yorker on the off-stump. To his woe, he missed his line and the ball turned into a low full toss and it fell in the hitting arc of Dhoni.
The Indian captain didn’t move his feet at all but brought his bat crashing down against the cherry that hurled it into the stands at least fifty rows back. The follow-up to the shot didn’t come as one would expect but it was an absolute delight to watch vintage Dhoni again hurling the ball 102 meters into another planet.
Unfortunately, he got out in the very next ball as he didn’t time his shot to perfection and it was a simple take.
