On a night that has seen everything going south for Royal Challengers, Virat Kohli has been the solitary shaft of hope for them.
Chennai has been all over them and Bangalore has been gasping for breath against the extremity of their fast bowlers.
Devdutt Padikkal provided them some hope, joining hands with the Indian captain, Virat Kohli, stitching a brilliant partnership of 53 runs for the second wicket.
However, once Padikkal fell, it was Chennai ruling the roost all over. The only thorn in the flesh of CSK has so far been a persistent Virat Kohli who is still swinging his bat at everything that keeps the scoreboard ticking.
Virat Kohli is known for his expressive strokeplay and clinical execution of a few cricketing strokes that others have failed to deliver.
In today’s game, it was one such exquisite shot that hogged the limelight when he took out Sam Curran with a brilliant six that flicked from the back of his bat.
It was a short ball that saw Virat Kohli adjusting himself brilliantly, prancing down the track, and smashing the ball wildly. However, it caught a thick edge of the flipside of his bat and rained down into the stands, sending everyone watching the stroke in frenzied celebrations.
But the highlight of the Virat Kohli’s innings was the six he smashed off Sam Curran’s bowling. We are calling it impossible because Virat Kohli smashed it from the back of his bat. It was not even an edge, it was a back-of-bat-six. It is true that we have seen many sixes in IPL 2020 and we will see many more but that six off Virat Kohli’s bat, or we should say from the back of his bat, is our early pick for the ‘six of the season’.
