The Indian skipper Virat Kohli’s journey in the ongoing edition of the IPL came to an end with a heartbreaking note. Virat will be next seen leading the Indian cricket team in the upcoming tour to Australia.
However, as per the sources, Kohli might miss the last two Tests of the four-match series against Australia as it coincides with the birth of his first child in January.
Virat Kohli, who is married to Bollywood actress Anushka Sharma announced in August this year that they will be welcoming their bundle of joy in January 2021. As the due date of Anushka is in January, Virat might miss out on the last two tests.
Over the years, BCCI has encouraged cricketers to take paternity breaks and Virat being the skipper, it is very likely that the same privilege will be given to him as well.
Though no official statement is out on this yet, but a senior BCCI source revealed that Kohli can be expected to take paternity leave after the first two Tests of the series starting on December 17. The source revealed:
“The BCCI has always believed that family is a priority. In case, the skipper decides on availing paternity break, he’ll then be available only for the first two Test matches,”
The source added:
“Look, in normal times, he could’ve flown back for the birth of his first born, missed a Test and played the final one in Brisbane. However, if the 14-day quarantine is still in place and it’ll be difficult to go and come back again,”
