Sanjay Manjrekar Has Made A Controversial Statement Against Shreyas Iyer: Delhi Capitals had a phenomenal season in the just-concluded edition of the Indian Premier League. The team was leading the points table almost throughout the tournament, however, the team lost track, in the end, wasn’t able to get their hands on the trophy.
One of the major USPs of Delhi Capitals has been their young line-up of talented cricketers including the likes of Prithvi Shaw, Rishabh Pant, and skipper Shreyas Iyer.
Changing not just the name of the franchise but also the line-up worked wonders for the franchise. Shreyas Iyer, the young skipper who was seen leading a team for the first time, impressed one and all with his captaincy. He gave a brilliant performance not just as a leader but also as a batsman.
However, former Indian cricketer and popular commentator Sanjay Manjrekar feels that the youthful exuberance was the sides’ weakness and not the strength in the 2020 edition.
Sanjay Manjrekar feels that its time that DC relieves Shreyas Iyer from captaincy role so that he can blossom as a batsman. He said:
”The only weakness that the losing finalists Delhi Capitals had was their concentration of youth, led by a youthful, inexperienced T20 captain. Shreyas Iyer got the captaincy out of chance when Gautam Gambhir resigned his captaincy and he has done a fantastic job. But now they must relieve him of the role and get him to blossom more as a batsman,”
Sanjay Manjrekar also opined that R Ashwin should be made the skipper instead of Shreyas. He said:
“Who better than Ravi Ashwin in that role instead? This again is one of those off-field decisions that could dictate the long-term fortunes of an IPL team,”
