The Indian cricket team hasn’t played a lot of cricket in the year 2020 due to obvious reasons but the start of the year and the end of the year has been with some high-quality cricket. India started the year with an ODI series win against Australia and then went to New Zealand where they whitewashed the Blackcaps in the shortest format. Many players got the accolades in the form of Man of the Match awards in the series played by their performances.
The ODIs didn’t go as per plan as the Indian team lost the series 3-0. India didn’t play a white ball game for the next 8 months as the next game was directly in Australia in November. India lost the recently concluded ODI series, but they made a strong comeback and won the T20I series. There were many key performers for India in the white-ball formats but only three Indians won the Man of the Match award in both the ODI & T20I formats in 2020. So, let’s have a look at those three players.
- Rohit Sharma
Rohit Sharma missed the recently concluded white-ball series against Australia, but he has still managed to win the Man of the Match award in both formats. The Indian openers won the Man of the Match award in the third ODI against Australia in Bangalore. The series was levelled 1-1 and India had to chase down 287 to win the series. Rohit Sharma scored 119 off 128 balls which helped India win the decider and the series.
He also won the Man of the Match Award in the third T20I against New Zealand which India won the super over. India batted first and Rohit Sharma scored 65 off just 40 balls which helped India reach 179-5 in their 20 overs. The match went into a super over and India needed 10 runs off the last two balls when Sharma smashed Tim Southee for two sixes. India won the third T20I in a row and won the series. As a result, Rohit Sharma won the Man of the Match award in both formats.
- KL Rahul
KL Rahul has been India’s top performer in both the white-ball formats in 2020. He won the Man of the Match awards in the 2nd ODI against Australia and the 2nd T20I against New Zealand. In the 2nd ODI against Australia, coming in at No.5, Rahul scored 80 runs off just 52 balls which took India’s total to 340 in their 50 overs. India won that game which helped them level the series 1-1.
In the 2nd T20I against New Zealand, India was chasing 133 and KL Rahul was unbeaten on 57 off 50 balls with three fours and two sixes. He even scored a century in one of the ODIs against New Zealand but didn’t get the Man of the Match as India lost the game.
