Later, Rajasthan Royals took to their social media and shared the heartbreaking news with the fans. RR wrote:

It pains us so much to confirm that Mr Kanjibhai Sakariya lost his battle with Covid-19 earlier today. We’re in touch with Chetan and will provide all possible support to him and his family in this difficult time,”

As the tragic news came out, social media was flooded with reactions from the netizens. From cricketers to experts and fans, everyone sent strength and prayers to Chetan Sakariya at this difficult time.

Condolences poured on social media with former Indian cricketer Wasim Jaffer and commentator Harsha Bhogle were among the first ones to send out their message to Chetan and his family.

Sakariya had lost his brother in January this year. He was playing in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy when his brother passed away.

It was just a few days ago when Sakariya had made a heart-touching statement that the money he received from IPL will help his family in this difficult time. He had said:

β€œI was lucky because I had received my part payment from Rajasthan Royals a few days ago. I straight away transferred money back home, and that is helping my family the most in my toughest time,”

He added:

People are saying stop IPL. I want to tell them something, I am the only bread earner in my family. Cricket is the only source of my earnings. I can give better treatment to my father because of the money I earned from IPL. Had this tournament not happened for a month, it would have been tougher for me. I come from a poor family, my father all his life drove tempo and because of IPL my whole life was about to change,”
