The inaugural edition of the World Test Championship is all set to come to an end with the ongoing thrilling clash between India and New Zealand at Southampton. The WTC winner will be awarded with the ICC mace and USD 1.6 million. India’s Test specialist Cheteshwar Pujara is one of the most respected cricketers. He is known for his incredible patience and ability to play long innings, which have bailed the team out of trouble on various occassions. Cheteshwar Pujara has everything a classic Test batsman needs. The cricketer is often hailed as the ‘modern Wall’ of the game.
Time and again, Pujara has given many memorable performances. However, he is often criticized for slowing down the pace of the innings. In what was another exhibition of his patience and dedication, Pujara ground at Southampton against the New Zealand pacers in the WTC Final after the Virat Kohli-led side made a steady start with both the openers — Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill tackling the opponents with their stunning batting skills.
The 62-run stand of Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma was brought to an end by Kyle Jamieson, who dismissed Rohit. Walking out to bat at number 3, Cheteshwar Pujara took as many as 36 deliveries to open his account by smashing a four.
Meanwhile, a Sri Lankan cricket fan named Daniel Alexander, used the opportunity to take a sly dig at the Indian test specialist Cheteshwar Pujara as he termed the batsman getting off the mark in 36 deliveries as a “tribute” to India’s horror show at Adelaide Down Under during the iconic Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2020-21. He wrote:
“Pujara got off the mark in the 36th delivery as a tribute to their “36 allout” in the Adelaide Test inns. #Cricket”,
