Mithali Raj Regains Top Spot In Women’s ODI Rankings

After a brief period of turmoil, Mithali Raj has reclaimed the pole position of the MRF Tyres ICC Women’s ODI Player Rankings.

This is the ninth time that the ace Indian batter has claimed the pole position of the MRF rankings. She occupied the ace for the first time 16 years ago. She regained that spot after dismantling the reign of West Indian skipper, Stafanie Taylor.

As per the latest update on Tuesday that included the last three matches between Pakistan and West Indies, Taylor lost 30 crucial points despite scoring 49 and 21 in the couple of ocassions in which she batted.

She claimed the throne a week back after hammering a brilliant century against Pakistan in the series opener. Iconic Australian all-rounder, Ellyse Perry slipped from her previous position in the points table too.

The recently concluded series between the Islanders and Pakistanis saw a paradigm shift in rankings as the West Indian wicket-keeper, Deandra Dottin climbed upto the 25th position. Kyshona Knight moved up to the 42nd spot while Britney Coopers entered the top 100.

Anisa Mohammad claimed six wickets in the series against Pakistan to surge to the 23rd spot while Hayley Matthew and Chienelle Henry claimed the 32nd and 67th spot respectively.

For Pakistan, Omaima Sohail leapt to a career-best position of 36 after chronicling scores of 62, 61 and 34. Pakistan’s Sidra Ameen and Muneeba Ali also gained considerable spots in the rankings.

In a bowling list aced by Australian spinner, Jess Jonnasen, Pakistan’s Anam Amin climbed up the ladder by 12 places and Fatima Sana propelled herself by 19 places to claim the 66th spot.

In the recently released rankings, Smriti Mandhana’s match-defining 70 against England has won her the third place in the rankings, which is a personal best for her.

There were also other significant gains for India as Deepti Sharma climbed to the 36th spot while Richa Ghosh, India’s young wicket-keeper gained the 72nd spot.

England’s Danielle Wyatt smashed a rippling 89 to surge to the 17th spot while Katherine Brunt made it into the top 10. Shafali Verma also got into the hunt of the top-spots while Katherine Brunt claimed the 17th position with a decent show of bowling.
