A 69-Year Old Record Got Broken On Day 1

Riding on the stellar performances of KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma, the Indian cricket team got off to a brilliant start in the first innings of the ongoing 2nd Test match against England. While both the cricketer won everyone’s heart with their terrific batting display on Day 1 of the 2nd Test, they also broke a 69-year-old record for India in Tests with their partnership at the iconic Lord’s Stadium.

After having put to bat first in the second encounter of the five-match series, Rahul and Rohit walked out to open the innings for the Indian side.

Though initially both the cricketers started off cautiously but soon Rohit changed gears and switched to beast mode. The Hitman looked in control as he smashed the England bowlers to all the corners of the ground.

While Rohit was seen playing the aggressor’s role, on the other hand, Rahul played the role of an anchor as he held the crease from one end and showed immense patience and determination. However, soon after Hitman’s dismissal Rahul too changed gears and constructed his knock into a classy century. The duo shared a 126-run partnership before Rohit was dismissed by Anderson.


This was also India’s first 100-run stand at Lord’s for the first time since 1952. The last openers to share the 100-run stand at Lord’s were Vinoo Mankad and Pankaj Roy. It was in 1952 when these two openers had shared a 106-run opening stand against England.

Rohit was dismissed in the 14th over by James Anderson after scoring 83 runs off 145 balls. On the other hand, KL Rahul scored 129 runs off 250 balls. Apart from these two, the Indian skipper Virat Kohli also contributed with 42 vital learns to the team total and put on a 117-run stand with Rahul as well.
