In a series of the sensational turnaround of events, it has been reported that the former Indian cricketer Rahul Dravid will replace the current head coach Ravi Shastri as Team India’s head coach. Well, the tenure of Ravi Shastri will come to an end after the T20 World Cup 2021 in November and as per reports, Shastri won’t be seeking an extension in his tenure period.
Also, there are some age restriction rules currently in place, which will make him ineligible to reapply for the position.
Meanwhile, there are several reports making rounds on the internet that suggests the legendary cricketer might take charge of the backroom staff for the home series against New Zealand, which will kickstart from November 17.
As per a report by ESPNCricinfo, Rahul Dravid is ‘by distance’ the favorite to become India’s head coach. The report read:
“It is understood that BCCI officials have been involved in discussions with Dravid for a few months now and there has been speculation about him succeeding Shastri ever since he stepped into the job in an interim capacity when India were forced to send a second-string team to Sri Lanka for a limited-overs series last July, when many of the first-choice players were in England for the Test series,”
Though the reports of Rahul Dravid taking over the position of the head coach are all over the internet, the BCCI is likely to announce the big change formally. Apart from this, the tenures of bowling coach Bharat Arun and fielding coach R Sridhar are also coming to an end and the BCCI will advertise for these positions too.
As per the reports, Paras Mhambrey, Dravid’s deputy at the NCA, is being considered to take over the position of bowling coach in the team.
