MS Dhoni once again guided Chennai Super Kings to yet another IPL title on Friday after defeating Kolkata Knight Riders by 27 runs in the season final at the Dubai Internation Stadium. After suffering a humiliating defeat last year, Chennai Super Kings made a stunning comeback this year and successfully won their fourth IPL trophy.
After winning the tournament, Dhoni remained coy about his future in IPL when Harsha Bhogle asked him the big question. While he insisted that he has not “left behind” anything at CSK, he also made it clear that a lot of things depend upon the retention and auction rules of IPL 2021. He also stated that he is looking forward to building a strong core of the team.
Meanwhile, legendary batsman and former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag feels MS Dhoni has a lot to offer as captain for Chennai Super Kings and that he would want him to play in the next season of IPL as well.
Sehwag also said that Dhoni’s legacy as an Indian skipper is hard to match and the same is with his captaincy for CSK in IPL. Speaking to Cricbuzz, he said:
“No doubt, Chennai Super Kings is the best team of this T20 tournament that plays consistently. They finished at the bottom of the table last year and before that, they were banned for 2 years. So for 3 out of 13-14 years, they were out of the contention. But in the rest of the seasons, they have played the playoffs and made it to the final on 9 occasions”
“It’s a phenomenal team. No one in Team India could beat Dhoni’s legacy and hopefully, it would be difficult for any other captain to do the same for CSK. I feel, he has one more year left in him for Chennai. He must play in next season and then retire,”
