Here’s Why KS Bharat Is Keeping Wickets For India Instead Of Wriddhiman Saha On Day 3

The Indian cricket team is locking its horns with the Kane Williamson-led New Zealand cricket team in the ongoing 1st Test match at the Green Park Stadium in Kanpur. On Day 3 of the 1st Test match, Indian wicket-keeper Wriddhiman Saha didn’t take the field and uncapped player KS Bharat was seen keeping behind the stumps.

On Saturday, the Board of Control for Cricket in India revealed that the senior wicketkeeper-batsman Wriddhiman Saha had a stiff neck problem and he is being treated by the medical team. Wriddhiman was replaced by the uncapped player KS Bharat in the morning session of Day 3 of the 1st Test match. In a statement, the BCCI said:

For the time being, backup wicket-keeper, KS Bharat, took the field in Saha’s place. KS Bharat will be up for a big challenge ahead as Kanpur’s pitch has been playing up and down and it is expected to deteriorate from Day 3.

Notably, Rishabh Pant has also been rested for the ongoing 2-match Test series. KS Bharat was picked in the squad and was expected to make his debut for India, however, Saha was preferred over him for the series.

Meanwhile, the pressure on Saha will grow as the keeper-batter failed to live up to the expectations of the fans. He only managed to score just 1 run when India needed the senior batter to register a good number in the middle. He has been receiving criticism from all corners for his poor show.
