Former Indian skipper and legendary batsman Kapil Dev admitted that he was left surprised by Virat Kohli’s “we were not brave enough” comment after India’s defeat against New Zealand in the game last night of the ongoing T20 World Cup.
So far, India’s journey in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2021 has been disastrous with back-to-back defeats. On Sunday, India suffered their second consecutive defeat after losing the game to New Zealand by 8 wickets, severely jeopardizing their chances of making it to the semi-finals.
Not only the game, but Kapil Dev also expressed his concern about Virat Kohli’s approach during the post-match discussion. Yes, Kapil Dev feels that the big names will have to take responsibility for what is transpiring in the UAE. He expressed his disappointment with Virat Kohli’s ‘we were not brave enough’ comment. He said:
“Obviously, it’s a very weak statement from a player of Virat Kohli’s stature. We all know that he has the hunger and desire to win games for the team. But, if the body language of the team and thought process of the captain is not up to the mark, it’s very difficult to lift the mood of the players inside the dressing room,”
“I don’t think we were brave enough with bat or ball. We didn’t have much to defend but we weren’t brave when we walked onto the field. Whenever we looked to take the game on, we lost a wicket. That happens in T20 cricket when some hesitation set in,”
Meanwhile, the chance of Virat Kohli and Co. qualifying for the semi-finals has been hampered to a great extent. India is currently sitting fifth place behind Namibia in Group 2 of the Super 12s and that too with a net run rate (NRR) of -1.609. India needs nothing more than a miracle to qualify for the semi-finals.
