Virat Kohli‘s explosive statements on the recent captaincy switch, on Wednesday, have once again stirred a debate on the lack of communication between the board and the players. As fans and experts continue to debate over the ongoing controversy, former Indian cricketer Pragyan Ojha has taken an indirect dig at the Indian skipper Virat Kohli for contradicting Sourav Ganguly’s statements in the press conference.
Ahead of the upcoming tour to South Africa, Virat Kohli, in a press conference, the upcoming tour to South Africa, Virat Kohli refused the claims made by the BCCI President Sourav Ganguly regarding the recent captaincy shift. During the presser, Virat revealed that he was informed only 1.5 hours before the selection committee meeting ahead of the official announcement by the BCCI. He also denied having had a chat with Ganguly where the latter had asked him not to step down from the T20I captaincy. He had said:
“Whatever was said about the communication that happened about the decision that was made was inaccurate. I was contacted one-and-a-half hours before the selection meeting on December 8 for the Test series and there was no prior communication to me at all since I announced my decision on T20I captaincy.”
“When I left the T20I captaincy, I had first approached BCCI and intimated them of my decision and laid down my point of view in front of them (office bearers). I gave the reasons why I wanted to quit T20 captaincy and my view point was received very nicely. There was no offence, no hesitation and not for once was I told that ‘you should not leave T20 captaincy’,” added Kohli.
Earlier, Ganguly had claimed that he had personally requested Virat Kohli to not give up the T20I captaincy but was turned down.
Meanwhile, former Indian cricketer Pragyan Ojha feels that it was all ‘unnecessary’. Ojha took to Koo and expressed how he hoped that focus would return feels that it was all ‘unnecessary’. He shared:
Pragyan also took to Twitter and posted a cryptic tweet, suggesting that Kohli could have been careful with his words on responding to questions on his removal as ODI captain. He wrote:
