Rohit Sharma’s Statement On Virat Kohli’s 100th Test Shows His Greatness

Rohit Sharma had no problem in stating that he heirs a strong team from Kohli in Test cricket, and hoped he and his team could make Kohli's 100th Test a special one.

Virat Kohli’s 100th Test: India’s new captain Rohit Sharma was gushed in praise for his predecessor for the post, Virat Kohli, who is set to play in his 100th Test match, against Sri Lanka at the IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali starting Friday. Kohli will become only the 12th Indian and 71st player overall to earn 100 Test caps.

Rohit Sharma, who has been alongside Kohli on this journey for the better part of the last decade, lauded him for his achievements in the longest format as a batsman and India’s captain.

Speaking in the press conference on the eve of Virat Kohli’s 100th Test, Rohit Sharma said, “It has been [an] absolutely brilliant journey for him. A long one since the time he made his debut and now to go on and play his 100th Tests, it has been a wonderful journey. He has done exceedingly well in this particular format.

Rohit credited Kohli for the changes he had made in India’s Test team over the years, leading them to immense success across the globe. India remained undefeated in a home Test series under Kohli while conquering West Indies, Australia, Sri Lanka, England.

Rohit Sharma had no problem in stating that he heirs a strong team from Kohli in Test cricket, and hoped he and his team could make Virat Kohli’s 100th Test a special one.

“[He] changed so many things in the way the team is moving forward. It has been brilliant to watch that. It has been one hell of a ride for him. It will continue to be in the years to come. We definitely want to make it a special one for him. We are all prepared for that.

“As a Test team we, at the moment, stand in a very good position if you look at our last five years in Test cricket. The whole credit goes to Virat himself to get us going in this particular format. What he has done with the Test team over the years was brilliant to see. I have to take it honestly from where he has left. The team stands in a very good position,” the new Test captain added.
In his 99 Tests so far, Virat Kohli averages 50.39 at the moment – this is despite him not scoring a century for over two years, and a dip in form. He has scored 7962 runs in 99 Tests, with the help of 27 centuries, 7 of which are double hundreds, and 28 fifties.
