Here’s Why The BCCI Might Ban Journalist Boria Majumdar For 2 Years

According to reports in The Indian Express, it has been learned that journalist Boria Majumdar is likely to get a two-year ban for his involvement in the Wriddhiman Saha case.

The Wriddhiman Saha- Boria Majumdar text row took a dramatic, and a lot more serious turn when the veteran journalist said he will serve a legal notice for defamation on the wicket-keeper for his allegations that he’d been threatened by the journalist, putting up a doctored version of their chat on Twitter.

As Wriddhiman Saha got the support of fans and former cricketers with the issue boiling up, the BCCI appointed a three-member committee to meet Saha as the board launched a probe into the cricketer’s allegations against Boria Majumdar.

Now, according to reports in The Indian Express, it has been learned that journalist Boria Majumdar is likely to get a two-year ban for his involvement in the Saha case, and the BCCI will ask the players to not engage with Majumdar. Further, the board may also approach ICC to put Majumdar on the blacklist.

“We will be informing all state units of the Indian cricket board to not allow him (Boria Majumdar) inside stadiums. He won’t be given media accreditation for home matches and we will also be writing to ICC to blacklist him. Players will be asked not to engage with him,” a top BCCI official was quoted as saying

In February, Wriddhiman Saha, who had been dropped from the Indian team for the Sri Lanka Test series, had taken to Twitter to upload a screenshot of messages that a “respected” journalist had sent him on WhatsApp, in which the messages had an aggressive tone because Saha denied an interview.

“You did not call. Never again will I interview you. I don’t take insults kindly. And I will remember this. This wasn’t something ypu should have done,” the texts read.

A couple of weeks after that, Boria Majumdar revealed that he was the sender of those texts, but said Saha had doctored the images of the chat to put him in a bad light. He revealed that he’s filed a defamation suit against the Bengal wicket-keeper.

Wriddhiman Saha, who is currently playing in the IPL 2022 for the Gujarat Titans, was dropped from the Test team after the South Africa tour. He revealed that he’s indirectly been told by chief selector Chetan Sharma that he will not be picked again.
