IPL 2022: Here’s Why KL Rahul Can Get Banned For One Match

KL Rahul is now the second highest leading run-scorer of the season with 368 runs at a very healthy average of 61.

KL Rahul is having a rosy time on the cricket field having marched Lucknow Super Giants to the fourth position in the points table, after defeating Mumbai Indians on Sunday evening. LSG now have 10 points in 8 matches and, with a complete unit they possess, are one of the strong contenders for the title.

However, KL Rahul needs to work on his over rate while his side bowl as he’s been slapped with a second over-rate offence of the season. A third offence such offence will mean suspension for one match for the Super Giants skipper.

“The Lucknow Super Giants have been fined after they maintained a slow over rate during their TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 match against Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on April 24,” a release from the IPL said.

“This was the team’s second offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over rate offences.Lucknow Super Giants captain, KL Rahul was fined Rs 24 lakhs and the rest of the members in the playing eleven were fined Rs 6 lakhs or 25 percent of their match fee, whichever is lower.”

If KL Rahul and his team commit another slow over-rate offence, he will be charged Rs 30 lakh, but more importantly, he’ll be handed a one-match ban.

Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma has also been fined twice while Kane Williamson, the Sunrisers Hyderabad captain, was found guilty of slow over-rate once.

KL Rahul, whose second century of the season helped LSG defeat MI, also even joked about the slow over-rate fines after collecting his Man of the Match award on Sunday.

“Will have to make up for all the over rates and fines I’m getting (with his Player of the Match awards). Trying to play according to the situation, see what’s expected out of me. Enjoying batting, enjoying the responsibility. Fingers crossed I can keep doing the right things,” KL Rahul said after being awarded for his brilliant knock of 103 runs off 62 balls as LSG won by 36 runs.

KL Rahul is now the second highest leading run-scorer of the season with 368 runs at an average of 61. Jos Buttler is the current Orange Cap holder with 491 runs in 7 matches.
