IND vs SA: Umran Malik’s Father Made An Emotional Statement After His Selection

SunRisers Hyderabad’s sensational pacer Umran Malik has earned his national call-up in light of his stellar performances in the 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League. Umran’s name has been on everyone’s lips during the ongoing IPL season.

Umran Malik breathed fire as he clocked above 150 km/h on a consistent basis in the ongoing season of IPL. Though he was a tad expensive in certain situations, but under the guidance of bowling coach and South Africa legend Dale Steyn, Malik has improved his bowling. He made regular breakthroughs and also took a five-wicket haul against the Gujarat Titans (GT). It won’t be wrong to say that Malik was the find of the season.

Meanwhile, as the talented pacer earned his maiden call-up for the Indian cricket team, Umran’s father Abdul Rashid was the happiest man on the earth. Abdul Rashid, who is a fruitseller in Jammu, got to know the big news through his phone notification and radiated in pride.

Speaking to PTI, Abdul Rashid expressed his emotions about the big news. He said: “People were just coming in hoards to congratulate me. I am now going home and would join the celebrations. Just saw the news on the internet. What could be a bigger achievement than to wear the national colors,”

He added: “He has made all of us proud with his performances in the IPL and the way the whole country rallied behind him, we as a family can only be thankful. Pura desh ke support mila mere Umran ko,”

Rashid also spoke proudly of his son and revealed how Umran’s self-belief and dedication have earned him a place on the Indian cricket team. He said:

“Umran had the self-belief that one day he will achieve success. He had faith in his skill and talent and worked hard for it. It is completely his success and also Almighty’s blessing. He worked hard and God supported him. I don’t deserve credit for his hard work,”

As team India fabricates its team for the upcoming T20 World Cup, which is scheduled to take place later this year, it is likely that Umran could be able to make it to the squad for the marquee event. He said:

“We just want him to make the country proud with his performances. Nothing else matters for us,”

He added: “The day he makes his debut, me and his mom will be in the stands to cheer him. But please excuse me for now. Umran had told me not to give interviews to the media,”
