The Coolest Captain in the cricket world – Mahendra Singh Dhoni- is back as the captain of Chennai Super Kings, and what a stellar return he has made. Ravindra Jadeja’s decision of handing over the captaincy to legendary MS Dhoni proved worthy for the team as CSK defeated SunRisers Hyderabad by 13 runs to register their third win of the ongoing 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League.
“Captain change, result change“, there were many who cited this as the summary of CSK’s victory last night, however, MS Dhoni has ruled out this theory.
During the post-match presentation, MS Dhoni was asked the big question “WHY? WHAT’S DIFFERENT? What have you said? What have you done?” by Mpumelelo Mbangwa. Responding to this, MS got candid and expressed how it was nothing different, especially when you are in the same dressing room. He said:
“Nothing different you know, when you are in the same dressing room you keep saying the same things. So it’s not like when you change the captain a lot of things change.”
“I think it was a good score to defend. It’s one of those coincidence where we got off to a good start and forced the bowlers to bowl the areas where we wanted to hit. The kind of target we got was a very good one. The phase that really worked for us was where the spinners were bowling after 6 overs. “
Furthermore, MS Dhoni also talked about the performance of the Chennai Super Kings in the game last night. From misfields to death bowling to Jadeja’s form, MS Dhoni talked about a lot of things in his post-match presentation. He said:
“We have had quite a few good batting performances, we have given couple of overs that went for 25-26 runs, and even when you score 200, it really comes down to 175-180 in 19 overs. It’s important to try something different as a bowler. I always told my bowlers, you may get hit for 4 sixes in an over, but the 2 balls that you save – ultimately in a high-scoring game – those are the 2 deliveries that will help you win the game. Because a lot of bowlers, after getting 3-4 sixes, they will be like let’s get done with it but that one boundary or even instead of sixes if you get hit for 2 fours that will help you in a game. I don’t know if they believe in that theory, but it really works.”
Dhoni also opened up about Jadeja’s massive decision and admitted that the all-rounder’s performance was getting affected due to the added captaincy duties. He said:
“Between me and Jadeja, he knew last season itself that he will be given a chance to captain this year. He knew and got enough time to prepare, what is important is you want him to lead the side and I wanted that transition to happen. In the first 2 games there was information going in towards Jaddu and after that I left it to him to decide which angle to bowl and all that. At the end of the season, you don’t want him to feel as the captaincy was done by someone else and I’m just going for toss. So it was a gradual transition. Spoon-feeding doesn’t really help captain, on the field you have to take those crucial decisions and you have to take responsibility for those decisions.”
Meanwhile, fans on social media were left in awe of MS Dhoni after his candid and insightful post-match presentation. Several experts and fans took to their social media and came up with amazing reactions to Dhoni’s interview.
Among many, a Twitter user named Gurkirat Singh Gill (@gurkiratsgill) explained how it was nice of Dhoni to talk about the captaincy change himself as many feel that captaincy is a ‘magic wand’. He wrote:
“So nice of Dhoni to very categorically mention that ‘Not a lot changes when captaincy changes, when you’re in the same dressing room’. So important that the smartest captain mentioned that himself because many feel that captaincy is a magic wand.”

Dhoni's post match interviews are a form of therapy.

The greatest post match interview ever. This was masterclass on captaincy by Professor MS Dhoni. All the coaches till date have not been able to teach as much about captaincy as Dhoni taught in five minutes.
This was pure gold. #CSKvsSRH pic.twitter.com/KcGdHQD5db

This is not a post match interview. Pommie and Dhoni doing a captaincy masterclass. IPL needs Professor Dhoni's help with the TV ratings.

The only difference that Dhoni officially becoming CSK captain again creates is that we will have better toss and post-match interviews.

Definitely one of MS Dhoni's top 5 post-match interview of all time. Spoke his heart out and was brutally honest. Also shut the dummy captain things. Always thought if Dhoni is getting retained for 12 Cr he has to captain. Waiting for @bhogleharsha to interview him next.#IPL2022

That is the most insightful, fascinating interview I’ve heard from MS Dhoni. From captaincy to young players to death bowling to Jadeja. And all credit to @mmbangwa for asking all the right questions. #IPL

Don't remember any other captain or player having such an open, candid post match chat in the IPL..
No need of any information or rumours from sources when there's #MSDhoni ..
