Sunil Gavaskar Is Getting Slammed For His Unpleasant Remark On Shimron Hetmyer And His Wife

Former Indian cricketer and commentator, Sunil Gavaskar, has found himself at the receiving end of criticism and trolling because of his tasteless comment during Rajasthan Royals (RR) final league stage game against the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the Brabourne Stadium on Friday.

Gavaskar is being thrashed by the fans for his unwarranted comment on Rajasthan Royals cricketer Shimron Hetmyer and his wife.

Shimron Hetmyer, who was returning to the playing XI of Rajasthan Royals, walked out to bat when RR lost their fifth wicket and was in a tricky situation in their 151-run chase against CSK. As the chase became tougher for Rajasthan Royals, Sunil Gavaskar, in commentary, said: “Hetmyer’s wife delivered, will Hetmyer deliver for the Royals now?”

For the unversed, Hetmyer had left the Rajasthan Royals bubble and traveled to Guyana to be with his wife, who was pregnant with their first child. Hetmyer and his wife were blessed with a baby on May 10.

After spending a few days with his wife and newborn, Shimron returned back to India and joined the RR team. He was picked as soon as he was available for the selection by the RR in their important game against CSK.

This isn’t the first time that the former cricketer has faced backlash because of his remark on-air. In IPL 2022, after a string of failures, Gavaskar had said on-air: “Inhone lockdown me to bas Anushka ki gendon ki practice ki hain“. (which roughly translates to: Virat Kohli has only trained against Anushka’s balls during the lockdown).

Meanwhile, Gavaskar’s particular comment on Shimron didn’t go down well with the fans on social media, who are now trolling the former cricketer left, right, and center for making a personal remark on the cricketer.
