Virat Kohli Got Trolled Badly For His Slow Batting Against LSG

Virat Kohli Got Trolled Badly For His Slow Batting Against LSG:

After a match-winning knock versus Gujarat Titans in Royal Challengers Bangalore’s last league game – which helped them remain alive and then eventually qualify for the playoffs– there were once again massive expectations from Virat Kohli to deliver the goods in the crucial Eliminator knockout match, against Lucknow Super Giants in front of a jam-packed Eden Gardens.

Following a rain delay, the pitch getting spicier for pacers, Kohli took the strike against Mohsin Khan First ball, a dead, solid block to a delivery into his body. There was the Kohli nod, the stare, the eyes of a man who has made his mission to take RCB closer to the final.

That had to come back on runs. Some runs is what Kohli made but threw away his start. 25 runs off 24 balls. ‘Arghh’, the RCB fans would have gone after Kohli failed to capitalize on his start having spent 8 overs in the middle, having assessed the conditions, the pitch, the par score, the winning score with the rain around.

This is not the first time it has happened – not just this season but for the past three-four years, Kohli’s strike rate, his intent, number of his attacking shots have come into question regarding T20 cricket.

Today, his first boundary came on the first ball of the second over, bowled by Dushmantha Chameera, a flick through mid-wicket; his second boundary came on the first ball of the third over, off Mohsin Khan, an ariel drive over the in-field on the offside.

However, not a single boundary was hit from Kohli’s bat for the next six overs, a period of play Rajat Patidar dominated – but one where Kohli could have, and should have, too, helped up the scoring rate with RCB eyeing an above-par total.

With all the pressure Kohli had piled upon himself, it then was perhaps the only takeaway for him that he got out aiming for the boundary, caught at third man to a short ball from Avesh Khan.

Nothing in the pitch suggested or justified Kohli trickling along at the strike rate of 104 for a few balls fewer than one-fourth of the innings; if one wondered whether Faf du Plessis‘ golden duck was not too worse impactwise than Kohli’s 24-ball 25.

As usual, the memes, the trolling erupted on Twitter, criticising Kohli’s slow-go approach.
