Jasprit Bumrah To Lead India Cricket Team

On Thursday, ahead of the rescheduled Test match at Edgbaston, Bumrah attended the press conference and he expressed his emotions about getting an opportunity to lead the country. Expressing his emotions he said:

“It is a big achievement, big honour. It was my dream to play Test cricket. It is a big achievement that I have gotten the honour to lead the country, it is the biggest achievement of my career. I am very happy,”

He added: “I never thought about where I stand in the pecking order, what people think about me. I always focused on what I can do, I always back my self-belief. I believe in basics and this is what I will keep following,”

Bumrah Had Taken A Piece Of Advice From MS Dhoni

Furthermore, Bumrah also recalled the advice he received from the legendary captain MS Dhoni ahead of the fifth Test match between India and England. Just like Jasprit Bumrah, MS Dhoni had no experience in captaincy but went on to achieve all the great things for the Indian team.

Dhoni won all the ICC trophies for the Indian side as he went on to win the 2007 T20 World Cup, the 2011 ODI World Cup, and the Champions Trophy in 2013. He took the Indian cricket team to the number 1 position under his leadership. Giving an example of Dhoni, Bumrah said:

“See, you always want the responsibility. You play cricket for that responsibility. When there is pressure, the taste of success feels good. I love to be in tough challenges and this is nothing different. Yeah, captaincy, I have spoken to a lot of players, everybody improves and they keep getting better. Even I have spoken to MS Dhoni, he told me that he captained India straight away, he had never captained anywhere else and he is one of the most successful captains. I am just focusing on how to help the team and not on what I have done before. I will try to contribute to the best of my ability.”

India’s Test squad: Jasprit Bumrah (captain), Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, Hanuma Vihari, Cheteshwar Pujara, Rishabh Pant (vice-captain and wicketkeeper), KS Bharat (wicketkeeper), Ravindra Jadeja, Ravichandran Ashwin, Shardul Thakur, Mohd Shami, Mohd Siraj, Umesh Yadav, Prasidh Krishna, Mayank Agarwal.
