3 Bowlers RCB Should Target For IPL 2025

As the IPL 2025 mega auction approaches, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) find themselves at a crossroads, particularly in their quest to bolster their bowling attack. Despite having a formidable batting lineup, RCB’s perennial challenge has been their bowling, which often lacks the cutting edge needed to clinch titles. Here are three bowlers RCB should consider to address this issue:

1. Nandre Burger – The South African fast bowler has been making waves with his pace and swing. Burger’s ability to move the ball both ways at speeds touching 150 km/h could be a game-changer in the IPL. His international performances, especially in shorter formats, suggest he could be the kind of bowler who thrives under pressure, making him an ideal candidate for RCB’s pace battery. His experience in domestic leagues around the world would also bring a seasoned approach to the team, potentially leading the bowling attack or at least providing a significant boost in the powerplay overs.

2. Rashid Khan – Although an audacious pick given his stature in the IPL, if there’s a chance to secure him, RCB should not hesitate. Rashid Khan’s leg-spin has been one of the most feared bowling spells in T20 cricket. His ability to bowl in the death overs, combined with his knack for picking up wickets at crucial junctures, makes him invaluable. For RCB, having a spinner of Rashid’s caliber would not only provide balance but also strategic depth, allowing them to play two spinners in conditions favoring spin, something they’ve struggled with in the past.

3. Harshal Patel – While not a new face for RCB, if Harshal Patel becomes available in the auction, re-signing him could be a strategic move. Known for his variations, especially the slower balls, Harshal has been a death bowling specialist. His experience with RCB, understanding the pitch conditions in Bengaluru, and his previous success in the IPL make him a reliable option. His return could also provide a psychological boost, given his history with the franchise, and he could mentor younger pacers in the squad.

The rationale behind these picks revolves around addressing RCB’s specific needs:

  • Variety in Pace: Nandre Burger would add raw pace and swing, elements often missing from RCB’s bowling arsenal. His international exposure would also bring a different tactical approach to the team.
  • Spin Mastery: Rashid Khan’s inclusion would not only strengthen the spin department but also offer a world-class option for the death overs, an area where RCB has historically been vulnerable.
  • Experience and Mentorship: Harshal Patel’s return would not just be about his bowling but also his experience. His role could extend beyond the field, helping to groom the next generation of RCB bowlers.

For RCB, the IPL 2025 auction presents an opportunity to not just patch up but to revolutionize their bowling strategy. By targeting these bowlers, RCB could finally find the balance they’ve long sought, potentially turning their perennial near-misses into a championship win. This strategic overhaul in the bowling department could be the key to unlocking the elusive IPL trophy for RCB, making the auction a crucial event for the franchise’s future.
