Coronavirus has wreaked havoc globally in the past few weeks. The widespread effects due to the pandemic continue to multiply with each passing day. With the situation not expected to improve in the upcoming few days, IPL 2020 might face the repercussions even after it was postponed till April 15.
With uncertainty looming around IPL this year, a few Indian players would consider themselves unlucky to miss out on a real chance to prove their worth. With a T20 World Cup scheduled later this year, it would have been a perfect occasion for some of the contenders to stake a claim for a spot in the T20 World Cup for India. IPL is regarded as one of the high-profile tournaments, especially due to the quality of cricket which is on display.
Here’s a look at 3 players who might not be included in India’s T20 World Cup squad:
1. Sanju Samson:

Sanju Samson was re-called into India’s T20I squad in the home series against Sri Lanka and didn’t get enough chances to prove a point. However, after Dhawan’s injury, Sanju was again roped into the Indian side for the five T20Is against New Zealand. He was given an opportunity but rued both the chances in the last two T20Is. A no IPL this year might make things even worse for the talented wicket-keeper batsman. There’s a probability that he might lose out on the wicket-keeper’s spot to Rishabh Pant in the T20 World Cup squad for India.
2. Khaleel Ahmed:
Khaleel Ahmed hasn’t been at his best while playing T20Is for India. He has been considerably good for Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL but has failed to replicate his success for the ‘Men in Blue’. In 14 matches, Khaleel has picked mere 13 wickets. The uncertainty over his spot in the team has forced him to not deliver at his usual best. He might realize the lost opportunities even more if the IPL is canceled for this year. He’s one of those fringe players who could have made into the T20 World Cup squad on the back of his performances in IPL 2020.
3. MS Dhoni:
Former Indian skipper, MS Dhoni was raring to don the yellow jersey in the 13th IPL edition. However, due to the Coronavirus outbreak, Dhoni had to cancel his pre-season IPL training in Chennai. Dhoni was definitely eyeing a spot in the T20 World Cup squad depending upon his performances in the season for Chennai Super Kings. However, amid growing coronavirus concerns, it is highly unlikely that Dhoni will get an opportunity to regain his touch of scoring runs. This will have a direct impact on his chances of making it into the Indian team for the big-ticket tournament in Australia in October 2020.
