ICC U19 World Cup 2020 is in the history books now as Bangladesh U-19s overcame all odds to end the tournament as the winners. No one expected Bangladesh to come out on top as they had never qualified for an ICC tournament finale in the past leave aside the thing of winning a global event. Hence, when they reached the final of the ICC U19 World Cup 2020  with India U-19s, the cricket universe predicted Priyam Garg and co. to win the match with supreme ease.

Unfortunately, though the Indian stars failed when it mattered the most. There was no teamwork between the players and the bowlers did not execute their basics as well. Bangladesh U-19s, on the other hand, showed a lot of maturities as they bettered their Indian rivals on all grounds. In this article, we will have a look at the 3 reasons why India U-19s lost their U-19 World Cup final match against Bangladesh U-19s.

1. Over-reliance on Yashasvi Jaiswal

The entire batting department of the Indian U-19 team was shouldered by Yashasvi Jaiswal. The left-handed batsman ended the tournament as the highest run-scorer with 400 runs which is a matter of pride for the nation. However, that does not mean that the team can rely on only on one player to do all the scoring. In the final match, everyone was supposed to bring their ‘A’ game to the table.

Divyansh Saxena scored 2(17) while Tilak Varma struggled a lot during his 38-run knock. Skipper Priyam Garg flopped as well while Atharva Ankolekar and Dhruv Jurel created a mockery of themselves with a Pakistan-Esque runout. Promising all-rounder Siddhesh Veer lost his wicket for a golden wicket. Hence, the Indian innings ended with just 177 runs and the over-reliance on Yashasvi Jaiswal cost India the final of ICC U19 World Cup 2020.

2. Too many extras

The extra runs leaked by the Indian bowlers proved to be a decisive factor in the final of ICC U19 World Cup 2020. The Indian bowlers gave away 33 runs in the form of extras as they allowed Bangladesh U-19s to gain the momentum when it mattered the most. There were a total of 19 wides in Bangladesh U-19s’ innings while 8 runs came via byes.

There were also some beamers from the Indian bowlers which gave away runs in the form of no balls. Kartik Tyagi and Akash Singh conceded 5 extras each whereas Sushant Mishra added six runs to the extras column. When defending a target of 178 runs, the team management, and the fans would have expected a better showing from the fast bowlers.

3. Not using Ravi Bishnoi well

Ravi Bishnoi was the brightest star of the Indian bowling attack with figures of 4/30 in his 10 overs. He gave his best on the field but his numbers could have been a lot better had Priyam Garg used him properly. He allowed Bangladesh to put on 50 runs for the opening stand before introducing Bishnoi. Since the fast bowlers were not bowling up to the mark, he could have taken the risk of bowling Bishnoi a few more overs in the powerplay.

He could deliver early blows to Bangladesh U-19s which might have turned the game. However, the improper use of Ravi meant that the Indian U-19s
