IPL 2020: 3 Reasons Why RCB Can Win Their First IPL Trophy This Year

IPL 2020: In the last 12 seasons of the Indian Premier League (IPL), among the original eight teams, there are only three teams who haven’t won the tournament even once. Delhi Capitals have never made the finals while KXIP has been part of a final in 204 but couldn’t cross the line. Royal Challengers Bangalore has reached the final three times but still hasn’t managed to win the title.

Even though they haven’t won a single IPL trophy the fan following never dies down. It is a highly supported team and the main reason behind that is the presence of Virat Kohli and ABD. Despite the presence of these two-star players, RCB has failed to win the IPL.

But after this year’s player auction it seems as if they have a chance to do something special. The Virat Kohli led IPL franchise has a genuine chance of winning the IPL this year. Let’s have a look at three reasons as to why this is possible.

  1. Change in the coaching staff

RCB had big names like Gary Kirsten and Ashish Nehra as their coaches for the last year’s IPL. Gary Kirsten is a highly successful international coach but to be honest he has never been successful for any franchise. Ashish Nehra was having his first experience as a coach and it didn’t go well.

For IPL 2020, RCB has roped in Simon Katich as their head coach and Mike Hesson as their Director of Operations. Katich is a proven coach at this level as he successfully coached the Kolkata Knight Riders for the past couple of years. Mike Hesson has a sharp cricketing brain and he knows how the IPL works. These two could form a really good combination for the RCB team. RCB fans will be hoping that this combination turns into a winning one.

  1. Quality batsman to support Kohli and AB de Villiers

Since Chris Gayle was released, RCB hasn’t found batsmen who could support the two superstars of their team. From the last couple of years, the talk has only been about Virat Kohli and AB De Villiers. This year they have looked into this problem and tried to solve it.

Parthiv Patel’s place might be questionable but Aaron Finch at the top of the order is a terrific choice in IPL 2020. Along with Finch, there is the explosiveness of Moeen Ali and Shivam Dube. Ali was fantastic in the last season and Dube is a much better batsman after a year of international experience.

In the reserves, they have players like Josh Phillipe and Devdutt Padikkal who are young sensations. All in all, this seems to be a better batting line-up than last year and that’s why RCB has a great chance of winning the title this year.

  1. Better Death Bowlers

RCB’s main problem has been their bowling at the death. Over the years they have struggled to contain batsmen in the last couple of overs. Last year Virat Kohli was finding bowlers as to who can bowl at the death. Nathan Coulter Nile never arrived whereas Tim Southee couldn’t deliver the goods.

At the IPL 2020 auction, RCB made a good decision to go bring in the experienced South African speedster–Dale Steyn. If he remains fit, he can be a match-winner for them. Supporting him will be another South African Chris Morris who bowls terrific Yorkers at the death. RCB has also bought in BBL’s superstar Kane Richardson. Richardson has a lot of variations and can be effective for RCB. India’s new pace sensation Navdeep Saini is now a better bowler and RCB even have the services of Isuru Udana who bowls some really good cutter.

This is forming a pretty good combination for the Royal Challengers Bangalore and if they perform to their potential then RCB can win IPL 2020.
