3 Teams That Will Change Their Skippers In The Phase 2 Of IPL 2021

IPL 2021 was going on in full swing however the season was suspended mid-way because of the outbreak of COVID-19 within the bio-bubble. Several cricketers tested positive for COVID-19 and as a result, BCCI decided to suspend the IPL 2021.

Recently, BCCI confirmed that IPL 2021 will be played in the UAE from September 18 to October 10. There are still 31 games left in the league stage of IPL 2021 and the teams will make sure to give their best in the remaining season.

Here, in this article, we bring you a list of three franchises who will change their skippers in phase 2 of IPL 2021. Have a look:

Delhi Capitals:

Ahead of the IPL 2021, Delhi Capitals’ regular skipper Shreyas Iyer was injured. In his absence, the team management decided to hand over the responsibility of the captaincy on Rishabh Pant’s shoulders.

Rishabh Pant did extremely well as captain as he won 6 out of the 8 games in IPL 2021’s first phase. Delhi Capitals looked all set to enter the playoffs stage, however, IPL 2021 was suspended mid-way because of the outbreak of COVID-19 within the bio-bubble.

However, Shreyas Iyer is now fit for the second phase of the IPL 2021 and he can now captain Delhi Capitals in the rest of the tournament, replacing Rishabh Pant.

Sunrisers Hyderabad:

Sunrisers Hyderabad didn’t have a great time in the 2021 edition of IPL. The team lost 5 out of the 7 games they played. As a result, SRH’s regular skipper David Warner was removed from the captaincy duties and Kane Williamson was made the skipper of the team.

Now, since the second phase of IPL 2021 will take place in September-October, the New Zealand players will be busy playing against Pakistan in a series. In such a situation, it will be very difficult for Kane Williamson to lead the team in IPL.

Because of the non-availability of Kane Williamson, SRH can either make David Warner the skipper or hand over the captaincy to other players like Bhuvneshwar Kumar or Manish Pandey.

Kolkata Knight Riders:

As per the sources, England players also have a busy schedule in September-October. ECB director Ashley Giles, recently, admitted that it will be very difficult for the England cricketers to take part in the remaining season of IPL.

In such a situation, KKR’s regular skipper Eoin Morgan won’t be available for the second phase. Dinesh Karthik might once again become the skipper of KKR. Also, KKR can also opt for players like Shubman Gill, Andre Russell, Shakib Al Hasan for the captaincy position.
