The IPL 2023 is seeing most of the highly talented players in the world showcase their skills and talents at the biggest T20 stage on the planet. The IPL 2023 is a platform for youngsters to not only showcase their batting and bowling mights, but also learn and teach captaincy smarts.
There are some cricketers in the Indian Premier League 2023 who are either leading or not, but are likely to captain their country in the future.
Here are 3 players in IPL 2023 who could lead their nation in the future:
India – Hardik Pandya (ODI and T20I)
In all likelihood, Hardik Pandya will take over India’s T20I and ODI captaincy duties from Rohit Sharma. Pandya had never led in the IPL until he was appointed the Gujarat Titans‘ captain in IPL 2022. To the surprise of everyone, Pandya captained GT to the IPL 2022 trophy and now his side are also at the top of the points table in Indian Premier League 2023.
After his success as a captain in IPL 2022, Hardik was also added to India’s leadership group and has led India in 11 T20Is and 1 ODI match in the past year. The 29-year-old Hardik is currently the designated vice-captain in India’s white-ball teams.
India – Shubman Gill (All formats)
Another Gujarat Titans player who could lead India in the future is Shubman Gill. Gill is in a surreal form at the moment in all three formats; he has cemented his place as the Test and ODI opener and perhaps even as the T20I opener in the Indian team.
23-year-old Shubman is touted to rule the coming decade with the bat, but he could also be the top of Indian cricket as India’s all-format captain maybe 5-6 years later.
England – Sam Curran (ODI and T20I)
He has already filled in as interim captain for MI Cape Town in SA20 and for Punjab Kings in the Indian Premier League 2023. So it’s very much likely that we could see Sam Curran leading England in white-ball cricket some 4-5 years down the line.
