With the World T-20 being postponed indefinitely, it paved the way for Indian Premier League to transpire and as per the latest communiqué, it was declared that the Indian domestic annual extravaganza will be convened in UAE to avert the vice of the current pandemic situation.
Conforming to the currently implied norms by the regulatory bodies in place to contain the virus, IPL will play a major role in providing an imperative platform for the Indian stars to showcase their talent before the biggest of the frays kick-off.
After pathetic showdowns in the preceding editions of the tournament and for a prolonged span of 6 long years staying away from the play-offs, Delhi Capitals finally managed to make the cut with some incredible performances in the preceding edition of the tournament.
Despite bowing out of the tournament after a crushing defeat at the hands of Chennai Super Kings, Delhi heralded an era of greatness which is about to come in the imminent seasons.
We will look at four superstars from the Delhi-based franchise who are expected to make it big in the current edition of the tournament.
Rishabh Pant
Touted as the apt successor to Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Rishabh Pant has proliferated in all the colours that he has donned on until now. Showcasing his class in the U-19 World Cup in 2016, Pant belted out one masterclass after the other. Exhibiting a proclivity towards hammering quickfire knocks that saw him propelling a blistering 24-ball-75 against Nepal and an amazing ton against Namibia, Pant shortly tasted meteoric rise in the ranks of Delhi.
Despite not being able to kiss the expected heights in the national colours, Pant’s IPL exploits have been pretty laudable. With 1736 runs at a whopping strike rate of 162.7, he makes a good case for himself in the number 4 of Delhi.
His wicket-keeping flair is also of tantamount brilliance but it is still not the correct time to deem Pant as the next best thing behind the stumps. However, this young lad has all the potential inside him to become one of the best in the offing to arrive.
Shreyash Iyer
Another young talent brimming with potential, waiting to be nurtured and showed the right path, Shreyas Iyer can be an extremely crucial name in the forthcoming IPL. Known for his dynamics in the middle order, Iyer has proved himself to be of imperative stature to the national team.
Showcasing his class against a formidable Australia, Iyer validated the fact that if given the proper opportunity, he can be the key to India’s midfield problem.
In his very opening season with the Daredevils, he came out as the Emerging player of the tournament, notching up 439 runs from 14 matches. After three consecutive years of diligence, Iyer was shouldered with the onus of leading the Delhi contingency.
His opening game as the skipper of Delhi proved to be a matter of glaring sunshine as he smashed a blistering 93 off 40 deliveries. After four years of mediocre performances, the team finally fired in 2019 and Iyer played a pivotal role in it. The Delhi squad will look forward eagerly to this man’s flair in the middle order.
Shimron Hetmeyer
Though IPL is still to realize the fullest competency of this Caribbean bloke, the world has been accustomed to this man’s greatness in the middle. Known for his inch-perfect balance between reliability and aggression, Hetmeyer can be the most probable bridge for Delhi’s transition from the opening to the middle order.
With 354 international T20 runs at a strike rate of 122 and with a blistering 75 that this man went on to smash in IPL, we have all seen what he is capable of. A hard-hitting southpaw, Hetmeyer loves to take the aerial routes in times of distress.
Kagiso Rabada
Deemed as the best South African pacer at the moment who can rip through any batting line ups on his given day, Rabada will be the hottest favourite of Delhi Capitals owing to the bouncy pitches of UAE.
With 31 wickets from 18 IPL matches and the best figure of 4-31, Rabada has already shown it to India that how lethal he can be on his given day. With age on his side, and with the bowling-friendly pitches, Rabada can be a real game-changer.
