After a long wait, the 13th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is finally going to get underway next month in UAE. A lot of veteran players from different countries will participate in IPL 2020, but for some of the veterans, this might be their last outing in the tournament as they might announce their retirement soon.
Here are the 4 players who might feature in the IPL for the last time –
#1 Dale Steyn
Dale Steyn has already bid adieu to Test match cricket and he is not an automatic pick in South Africa’s T20I team anymore. Also, the next T20I World Cup has been postponed by a year which means Steyn doesn’t have a very strong reason to continue playing international cricket for a long time.
The 37-year old South African speedster, who is one of the greatest fast bowlers of all time and certainly the greatest of his generation, might be seen in the IPL for the last time this year. Steyn will represent the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in IPL 2020.
#2 Harbhajan Singh
Harbhajan Singh will be the only player featuring in IPL 2020 who made his international debut in the 90s. The legendary off spinner started playing for India long way back in 1998 and while all his contemporaries have already retired from the game, he is the only one still officially active in the international circuit, although he hasn’t been picked to play for India for a while now.
With the door to the Indian national team almost being shut now, Harbhajan might contemplate hanging his boots after IPL 2020 where he will be playing for Chennai Super Kings (CSK).
#3 Amit Mishra
Amit Mishra is sitting way too low in the pecking order of the spinners, as far as the selection to the Indian national team is concerned and he is not getting any younger. The wily leggie is 37-year old now and he might make a final decision on his career at the conclusion of IPL 2020 where he will be plying his trade for Delhi Capitals.
Mishra has a wonderful IPL career over the years and if he does have to finish this year, he will want to finish on a high.
#4 Chris Gayle
Chris Gayle will be the oldest player on show in IPL 2020. The Jamaican southpaw will be 41 years of age by the time he plays his first match for Kings XI Punjab this year and it’s likely to be his last appearance in the IPL.
Gayle is not playing too much of competitive cricket at any level these days and he even withdrew from the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) recently for personal reasons. Not too many people would be surprised if Gayle announces his retirement after IPL 2020.
