The Chennai Super Kings have not always had the fiercest of bowling attacks in the IPL, but the bowlers that they pick are often very effective because they pick their bowlers depending on the nature of the surface on which they have to play most of their home games.
While the CSK bowling attack has kept most of the batsmen at bay over the years, there are a few players who have managed to dominate against the CSK attack. Here are the 5 players who have scored most runs against CSK –
#1 Virat Kohli
The RCB skipper Virat Kohli has scored 747 runs against CSK in 24 matches at an average of 37.35. but Kohli’s strike rate against the man in yellow is not that high and that’s probably because he generally looks to manipulate the strike against the CSK spinners in the middle overs, while the rest of the batsmen bat around him.
Kohli, however, doesn’t shy away from taking the aerial root against the CSK spinners whenever the need be and that’s evident in the no. of sixes that he has hit against CSK. Kohli has hit 30 sixes against CSK.
#2 Rohit Sharma
Rohit Sharma is another Indian player who has handled CSK spinners really well and that’s because he has no apparent weaknesses against spin bowling. It doesn’t matter if the spinner is looking to flight the ball or he is looking to dart it in, Rohit has got all the shots in the book.
Rohit can go down the track against loopy spin bowlers to hit them straight down the ground and he can also explore other areas of the ground if the spinner bowls slightly tighter and drags his length.
Rohit has scored 705 runs against CSK in 27 games at an average of 29.37.
#3 Shikhar Dhawan
Shikhar Dhawan is someone who has got a few issues against the off spinners and CSK had had a couple of quality off spinners over the years, but Shikhar still has been able to make an impact with the bat against CSK.
Shikhar is the only left-hander who has scored more than 500 runs against CSK so far. The 34-year old southpaw, who currently plays for Delhi Capitals, has scored 641 runs in 21 games against CSK, averaging 35.61.
#4 Robin Uthappa
Among all the batsmen who have scored more than 500 runs against CSK, Robin Uthappa has the best strike rate. Uthappa has scored at the rate of 135 runs per 100 balls while batting against CSK.
The Karnataka right-hander, who is in his thirties now and will play for Rajasthan Royals in the upcoming IPL season, has hit 54 fours and 20 sixes in the 21 games that he has played against CSK.
#5 Shane Watson
Shane Watson has been a part of the CSK squad for the last couple of years, but for the first 10 seasons of the IPL, he played for the other franchises and he had a great record against CSK, particularly when he was playing for the Rajasthan Royals.
Watson boasts of a strike rate higher than 150 against CSK and his batting average is over 40 as well. The former Australian vice-captain has played only 12 games against CSK, but he has scored 480 runs with one hundred and 4 fifties. Watson is one of the very few players to have scored a hundred against CSK.
