The World Test Championship was started last year to put some context into the bilateral Test series that the countries play against each other home and away every year.
Let’s talk about some of the batsmen who have been individually very successful in the World Test Championship so far and have scored the most number of hundreds.
Here are the 5 batsmen with most centuries in ICC Test championship –
#1 Ben Stokes (4 hundreds)
After winning England the ODI World Cup final last year, Ben Stokes has gone from strength to strength in Test match cricket as well and has already scored 4 hundreds in the World Test Championship.
The England vice-captain is currently the third highest run-scorer in the Championship, having scored 1024 runs in 11 games at an average of 56.88.
#2 Marnus Labuschagne (4 hundreds)
Marnus Labuschagne was not even a first choice player in Australia’s playing XI when the World Test championship started and nobody could have thought that he would be at the top of the run scoring chart in the Championship in a year’s time.
Labuschagne has also got 4 hundreds to his name in the Test championship so far. The stylish right-hander has scored a total of 1249 runs in 9 games at an average of 83.26.
#3 Babar Azam (4 hundreds)
Babar Azam is the only batsman who is averaging more than 100 in the World Test Championship at the moment. He is not in top 5 in terms of overall run scoring because he has played only 5 games, but he has scored 4 hundreds already.
Pakistan has to play quite a few more series in the remaining part of the Test Championship which will give Babar the opportunity to climb up the overall run scoring chart as well. So far, Babar has scored 615 runs in 5 games at an average of 102.50.
#4 Mayank Agarwal (3 hundreds)
Mayank Agarwal has been very, very consistent at the top of the order for India since making his Test debut in Australia last year. The right-handed opener is currently India’s highest run scorer in the World Test Championship as he has piled on 779 runs in 9 Test matches at an average of 55.64.
Mayank has got to the three figure mark three times since the start of the Test Championship.
#5 Rohit Sharma (3 hundreds)
Rohit was not a certainty in India’s Test XI a year ago as his performance as a middle order Test batsman had been very shaky in the last few years.
But, the tide turned for Rohit when the Indian team management decided to open the batting with him in red ball cricket as well, something that he had been doing in white ball cricket for many years.
Rohit grabbed the opportunity and scored 3 hundreds in a single Test series against South Africa last year to cement his position as the second Test opener for India, alongside Mayank Agarwal.
