5 Batsmen With Most Runs For Mumbai Indians In The IPL

Mumbai Indians has been the most successful franchise in IPL history. The Mukesh Ambani-owned team has won four IPL trophies in the last 13 years, making them the best unit in the competition. The franchise has been home to some of the greatest Indian cricket stars, namely Sachin Tendulkar, Harbhajan Singh, Rohit Sharma, and even some overseas legends like Ricky Ponting, Andrew Symonds, Shaun Pollock, and Sanath Jayasuriya. 

Looking at the above list, one can determine why Mumbai Indians have been so successful. The batting department of any team plays a crucial role in deciding the result of the game. Hence, in this article, we will look at those five batsmen who have aggregated the most runs for Mumbai Indians in IPL history. 

Rohit Sharma – 3,728 runs

Rohit Sharma is the man who changed the fortunes of Mumbai Indians. The Hitman was a part of Deccan Chargers before Mumbai signed him in 2011. The right-handed batsman took over the reins of the team in 2013 and guided them to their first title. In the next six years, Mumbai won three more championships under Rohit. The Mumbai-based player has led his team from the front, scoring 3,728 runs in 139 innings at a strike rate of 130.62. 

Kieron Pollard – 2,756 runs

Although he bats in the lower middle order, Kieron Pollard stands at the second position on the list of batsmen with the most runs for Mumbai Indians. The Caribbean star has amassed 2,756 runs in 135 innings for the only team that he has played for in the IPL. Pollard also holds the record for the most sixes by a Mumbai Indians batsman, with 175 maximums to his name. 

Ambati Rayudu – 2,416 runs

Ambati Rayudu was one of the most underrated players when he was a part of the Mumbai Indians. His career changed after he played for Chennai Super Kings, but till 2017, he donned the Mumbai jersey and scored 2,416 runs in 107 innings. Rayudu scored 14 half-centuries for the Mukesh Ambani-owned franchise. 

Sachin Tendulkar – 2,334 runs

It is surprising to see Sachin Tendulkar at such a low position on this list. However, one should note that Tendulkar played only 78 innings for Mumbai Indians before he hung up his boots. The right-handed batsman scored one century and 13 fifties for Mumbai. Besides, his average of 34.84 shows how consistent he was. 

Lendl Simmons – 1,079 runs

Lendl Simmons played a pivotal role in the rise of Mumbai Indians. He formed a terrific opening partnership with Sachin Tendulkar and even after Sachin’s retirement, he continued to perform well for the franchise. Simmons featured in only 29 innings for Mumbai, aggregating 1,079 runs at an average of 39.96. He struck 109 fours and 44 sixes for Mumbai.
