5 Bowlers Who Have Taken 3 Wickets Most Times In An IPL Game

Three wicket haul in T20 cricket or an IPL game is equivalent to a five-wicket haul in ODI cricket or Test cricket simply because of the fact that T20 cricket is a much shorter version of the game and a 3-wicket haul, at times, can make a decisive impact in a T20 game.

If you have to find out the names of the most impactful bowlers in the history of the IPL, you will have to see which bowler has most three wicket hauls to his name. Here are the 5 bowlers who have grabbed 3 wickets in an IPL game most number of times –

#1 Lasith Malinga (19 times)

Nobody would be surprised to see Lasith Malinga on the top of this list. He has been such a consistent performer in the history of the IPL, both with the new ball and the old ball and he has not just been consistent, he has made match winning impact for his team on numerous occasions.

Mumbai Indians is the only team Malinga has represented in the IPL. There was a time when Mumbai had released him as well, but he went unsold in the auction thereafter and Mumbai then bought him back again next year. Malinga is, however, not a part of the Mumbai set-up in IPL 2020 as he withdrew himself from the tournament for personal reasons.

#2 Amit Mishra (16 times)

Amit Mishra is one of the most underrated bowlers in the IPL, but he has also got 16 three wicket hauls to his name in the IPL which suggests what a performer he has been with the ball.

Mishra initially made his mark in the IPL playing for the Delhi franchise before he was bought by Sunrisers Hyderabad. The leg spinner was mostly at the top of his game playing for SRH as well. However, he is now back to Delhi.

Mishra was looking in decent form in IPL 2020, but his season unfortunately ended mid way through as he injured his finger.

#3 Jasprit Bumrah (14 times)

Jasprit Bumrah might have been at no. 3 now, but the way he is going at the moment, nobody would have any doubt at all that he would soon go at the top of the list.

Bumra is probably at the peak of his career at the moment and is currently the purple cap holder in the ongoing IPL 2020. After a brief lean patch following his stress fracture, he seems to have regained his old touch.

#4 Ashish Nehra (14 times)

Ashish Nehra was someone who didn’t have a lot of pace, but he was a very smart bowler. He had this ability to quickly realize the ideal length on a certain surface and he would just keep hitting that length time and time again to create trouble for the batsmen.

Despite playing in the IPL towards the latter half of his career, Nehra still managed to prove his worth with as many as 14 three wicket hauls.

#5 Umesh Yadav (14 times)

When we talk about Umesh Yadav, we talk about his limitations while bowling in the death, but what goes under the radar is the fact that Umesh is a quality new ball bowler and it has happened quite a few times in the IPL that he has delivered a match winning spell in the powerplay itself.

Despite having struggled as a death bowler in the IPL, Umesh has still finished with three wickets 14 times in an IPL game.
