Murali Vijay
Murali Vijay was not a very bright student and he even skipped his board examinations. His parents were of the view that he should look for a job if he didn’t have to continue his studies.
Vijay decided to leave his house for some time in the pursuit of a cricket career in Chennai. After a lengthy period of struggle, Vijay eventually got the breakthrough as he was picked to play for Tamil Nadu.
Darren Sammy
Darren Sammy was very interested in cricket right since his childhood, but his mother would often drag him to the church on the weekend. Sammy used to complain about it as he would miss his cricket matches because of it.
Sammy, however, later became the first-ever cricketer from Saint Lucia to represent West Indies at the international level.
MS Dhoni
MS Dhoni’s dad wanted him to accept the offer of the Indian Railways and start working as a Ticket Collector. A reluctant Dhoni took up the job initially, but he quit it after a few months as he thought he was not doing the job wholeheartedly.
Dhoni started playing cricket again after quitting his job and went from strength to strength. The wicket-keeper is now one of the legends of Indian cricket.
Fakhar Zaman
Fakhar Zaman used to work in the Pakistani Navy which is why he is fondly called “Fauji” by his Pakistani teammates.
Fakhar, however, quit the job later as he was not able to do justice to his cricket. He managed to break into the Pakistan national cricket team thereafter and played a key role in Pakistan’s triumph in ICC Champions Trophy in 2017.
Habibul Bashar
At the time Habibul Bashar began his cricket career, even international cricketers were not well-paid and Bangladesh didn’t even have the test status. So, it was obvious for his parents to be a little worried about his future.
However, Bashar went on to have a glorious career for Bangladesh eventually and he even led Bangladesh in Test match cricket when they got the Test status.
