5 Father-Son Pair Who Have Played International Cricket: It is no surprise when the son or daughter or a younger relative (niece or nephew) of an international cricketer takes up cricket as a profession. But, it takes remarkable ability for the younger kin to, first play international cricket and then to make a successful and long career out of it.
There have been a few instances of a father-son duo to have played for their country. And it’s quite worthy of attention stuff.

Lala Amarnath, Mohinder Amarnath
Lala Amarnath and Mohinder Amarnath are the first Indian father-son pair to have represented India. Lala Amarnath was an all-rounder who featured in 24 Tests between 1933 and 1952; one of his three sons, Mohinder, like his father an all-rounder, played 69 Tests and 85 ODIs, with his greatest achievement coming in the 1983 World Cup final where he put up a Man of the Match worthy all-round performance. Mohinder averaged 42 in Tests and 30 in ODIs.
Roger Binny, Stuart Binny
Roger Binny was an all-rounder and was part of the 1983 World Cup winning side, and played 27 Tests and 72 ODIs between 1979 and 1987 taking a combined 124 wickets and stroked 6 fifties in his career.
His son, Stuart Binny, too, became an all-rounder and played 23 internationals for India across formats. Stuart holds the record for the best ODI bowling figures by an Indian – 6/4 which he recorded in 2014 vs Bangladesh.
Geoff Marsh- Shaun Marsh, Mitchell Marsh
Australian legendary opener Geoff Marsh donned his country’s jersey in 50 Tests and 117 ODIs scoring over 7000 runs from 1985 to 2002 and was part of the famed, almost indomitable Australian team.
Naturally, his sons, Shaun and Mitch, also took upon the game and became Australian stalwarts. While Shaun carved out a long career in Test and ODIs, Mitch Marsh recently became the Australian hero in the shortest format when he smashed a match-winning fifty in the 2021 T20 World Cup final vs New Zealand.
Chris Broad, Stuart Broad
Chris Broad is now more famous as a regular match referee. He was a left-handed opener for England playing in 25 Tests and 34 ODIs. His son, Stuart, however, chose fast bowling and excelled in it and is now England’s second-leading Test wicket-taker with 552 scalps and still counting.
David Bairstow, Jonny Bairstow
Jonny Bairstow is currently the most red-hot in-form England batsman across formats having smashed a flurry of centuries and half-centuries in the recent home summer. Jonny, part of England’s 2019 World Cup winner, and who has had a successful career in the three formats, however, sadly, suffered a tragic incident in his childhood when his father, the former England batsman David Bairstow, killed himself in 1998 when Jonny was only 9 years old.
David Bairstow played 4 Tests and 21 ODIs for England but had a vast experience of 459 first-class and 429 List-A matches between 1970 and 1990. After his retirement, though, he was reportedly in depression, leading to his committing suicide.
