5 Indian Players Who Might Announce Their Retirement In 2020 After The COVID-19 Outbreak: COVID-19 has been a global cause of concern, majorly in the past 30 days. The pandemic has forced a majority of the world’s population to stay indoors and be a mere spectator in this crisis. With all sporting events shut down, even IPL was postponed until April 15. However, with the death toll increasing at an alarming rate across India, it is highly unlikely for IPL to begin anytime soon.
Indian Premier League (IPL) is a cricket carnival that allows players to feature under the same roof. While many use it as a platform to prove their mettle at the highest level, a few counts upon it as an opportunity to regain their form. However, with doubts over IPL 2020, it may cause a great impact on a few players seeking a comeback in the national team.
Here, we take a look at 3 players whose International career might end due to coronavirus:
Suresh Raina

Regarded as Mr. IPL, Suresh Raina has been a phenomenal performer in the IPL history. At times, Raina has used his great IPL run to break into the Indian T20I squad on various occasions. With an upcoming T20 World Cup later this year, it would have been a perfect opportunity for Raina to give it another shot for a place in the World Cup squad.
His domestic performances haven’t been too pleasing either which rules out the chance of him making an India comeback. It is probable that a missed opportunity in IPL this year might draw curtains over his final hurrah at the international stage.
Murali Vijay
The discarded Indian Test opener, Murali Vijay was dropped from the Indian team after an awful outing during India’s tour down under in 2018. Ever since Vijay hasn’t impressed in the domestic cricket add to his mediocre IPL 2019. With uncertainty over IPL 2020, it is highly unlikely for Vijay to present a case for his comeback in any of the three formats. Team management has overlooked him in Test cricket and no further upcoming domestic matches till October don’t help his cause either.
Dinesh Karthik
Ever since India’s Semi-Final exit in World Cup 2019, Dinesh Karthik has been a notable absentee from India’s limited-overs squad. Once touted as India’s No.1 finisher in the T20Is, Karthik’s ouster from the T20 squad was a major surprise. However, playing for KKR in the IPL, the Tamil Nadu veteran must have sensed an opportunity to stake a claim for a spot in India’s T20 World Cup squad. But cancellation threats looming over IPL 2020, Karthik might lose the ultimate chance to regain a spot in the Indian team.
Robin Uthappa
Robin Uthhap believes that he still has one more T20 World Cup left in him, but many cricket fans and pundits would agree that he has surpassed his best and now there is no (or very little chance) to make a comeback to international cricket. It is likely that Robin Uthappa will announce his retirement later this year or early 2021.
MS Dhoni
This is one of the hottest topics of discussion because MS Dhoni has a massive army of fans and they want to see him play for India at least more time in the iconic blue jersey. Also, every Indian cricket fans want to see MS Dhoni retiring from the field. But, due to the massive coronavirus outbreak, there are high chances that there will be very little or no cricket in 2020, it seems. It might break many hearts, but it is likely MS Dhoni will announce his retirement this year.
