The former skippers like Mark Waugh, Ricky Ponting, and Mahendra Singh Dhoni are undoubtedly the most successful captains in the game. But, there are some players who did not get the credits they deserved to and are termed as underrated despite having good records as skipper in the ODI format.

Hansie Cronje
The late cricketer from South Africa, Hansie Cronje made his ODI debut in 1992. He was the stand-in captain when the regular skipper was injured or not available. Soon he was appointed as the regular skipper of the team. As a skipper, he took his team to the next level. The former skipper had captained 138 ODI matches in which he won 99 games and lost 35 matches. Cronje, who has the winning percentage of 73.70, did not get many credits for his captaincy.
Eoin Morgan
The World Cup-winning captain of England, Eoin Morgan has good captaincy skills. Under his leadership, the England team created a lot of world records and won the 2019 World Cup as well. After the early exit of the 2015 World Cup, Morgan took the responsibility and changed the face of the England cricket. So far, he has captained the England team in 114 matches, out of which he won 69 games and he has the winning percentage of 65.42.
Clive Llyod
The former West Indies skipper, Clive Lloyd was one of the most successful skippers in the history of Windies cricket. Under his leadership, the West Indies team played 84 games, out of which, the team has won 64 matches and lost just 18. He has the winning percentage of 77.71 in the ODI format. He is arguably one of the most underrated captains in the ODI cricket.
Michael Clarke
Michael Clarke, the stylish cricketer, who has good cricketing minds, took the responsibility of Australia’s skipper after the retirement of Ricky Ponting. Clarke, who created several records as a batsman, stunned the world cricket with his captaincy. Under the captaincy of Clarke, the Australian team won 50 games and lost just 21 games from 74 games. Clarke also led his country to win the 2015 World Cup.
Rohit Sharma
The aggressive opener of the current Indian team, Rohit Sharma is arguably one of the most underrated skippers in the history of cricket. He has proved on several occasions that he has good captaincy skills. He led Mumbai Indian to four IPL titles. Whenever his skipper, Virat Kohli is not available, Rohit Sharma used to take responsibility. He has led India to 10 games in which he won 8 and lost 2 games.
