Cricket is a very competitive sport. Most Indian children at some point in their naive minds have a strong urge to make it big into this glamorous sport. The spark and pomp showcased in a cricketer’s life create this urge. Some teens do invest heavily in cricket and work hard to earn their break. Not all cricketers make it to the top, the cricket authorities worldwide have a filtration system that keeps pushing the cream forward and holds the rest to struggle.
A cricketer plays for various clubs, U19 cricket, tournaments, First-class cricket and if he/she is still able to impress, an international break is awarded. It is a tedious procedure that extracts the best cricketers but not the only one now.
IPL has changed certain dynamics. Players who perform well in this league are the ones that can sustain under pressure. To prove this point, here is a list of players who owe their careers to the Indian Premier League:
1) Jasprit Bumrah:
Widely acclaimed as the best white-ball bowler in the world, Jasprit has a knack of bowling economical overs in the death and claiming crucial wickets when required. Bumrah is by far the greatest gift of this league. After performing well in the domestic circuit, the Gujrat pacer was first recognized when Mumbai Indians picked him up in 2013 and ever since he has been a lethal weapon.
Jasprit’s entire career depended on his IPL performances and this bowler with a short run-up and rigid action proved his worth. If it weren’t for IPL, Bumrah would’ve missed the international shine.
2) Hardik Pandya:
Pandya was announced into the global cricket stage with his selection in Mumbai Indians,2013. His ability to hit big sixes and bowl tidy overs gives Hardik an edge over any other Indian all-rounder. The 26-year-old proved his mettle at Wankhede only to be welcomed as an aggressive modern-day all-rounder in world cricket.
There are certain things only Hardik can pull off, his fielding just adds to his case. His presence gives a balance to the Indian side. Gradually he has become an indispensable part of the Indian team.
3) Sunil Narine:
A deadly off-spinner who turned out to be a hard-hitting opener is what Sunil Narine’s summary will read. He was picked as a bowler by KKR in 2012 and his 24 wickets in 15 matches that season helped him win the player of the tournament in his debut IPL.
Sunil kept shining ever after. Gautam Gambhir must be credited to discover this West Indian’s batting talent. Gambhir allowed Narine to bat as an opener and disturb the entire bowling line up. Sunil Narine’s International stint came into picture only after his success in IPL.
4) Rishabh Pant:
Remember Rishabh’s 97 versus Gujarat Lions where he almost got the game single-handedly for Delhi Daredevils. Rishabh Pant is a special talent in the Delhi cricketing circuit. Only after his IPL success did Pant make into the Indian squad. He also scored 2 hundred in test cricket. Rishabh Pant’s hard-hitting is not only an asset for the franchise/team but also relieves other players.
Rishabh Pant’s tenure with Delhi has been a turning point of his career and he’ll owe all of his success to this league.
5)Yuzvendra Chahal:
Chahal’s career skyrocketed only after Virat started using him to get quick wickets.Bowling at the Chinnaswamy must be tough but Chahal’s leg-spin can confuse any batsman into making a message.
Chahal has been successful in wrecking top oppositions owing to his lethal wrist spin and variations. Yuzi Chahal will always owe his hit career to the Indian Premier League that had helped him grow as a player.
