Wasim Jaffer might not have as successful an international career as he would have liked to, but there is no denying the fact that he has been an absolute stalwart in  Indian domestic cricket.

Some of the Ranji Trophy records that are registered to his name are going to be very difficult to break for the current generation players who are more interested in white ball cricket than red ball cricket.

5 Records That Prove Wasim Jaffer Is The God Of Ranji Cricket

Here are some of the Ranji Trophy records that are registered to Wasim Jaffer’s name:

#1 Most Matches

Wasim Jaffer has played a total of 156 matches in Ranji Trophy which is the most by any player ever. There have been some Indian cricketers who have played more first class matches than Jaffer, but their tally of first class matches is high because of the no. of Test matches that they have played.

But, when it comes only to Ranji Trophy cricket, Jaffer is at the top of the pile.

#2 Most runs

Jaffer has really been a fluent run scorer in Ranji Trophy right through his career, whether he has played for Mumbai for most parts of his career or for Vidarbha towards the end of his career. There has hardly been a season where he has struggled with his form.

And he has done that while doing the most difficult job for his team which is to face the new ball. Jaffer has a total of 12, 038 runs to his name in Ranji Trophy cricket.

#3 Most centuries and most fifty plus scores

This is not surprising either. Given Jaffer’s consistency in the tournament over the years and given the amount of runs that he scored in the tournament, it’s only obvious that he would have a lot of centuries and a lot of fifty plus scores to his name in the process.

The right-handed opener has 40 hundreds and a total of 89 fifty plus scores registered to his name in Ranji Trophy cricket which is the most by any batsman ever.

#4 Most catches

Jaffer has not only been an ace batsman at the top of the order over the years, he has been a very safe catcher in the slips as well and the numbers prove that he has taken a total of 200 catches in Ranji Trophy. It’s a considerable number of catches for somebody who is not the wicket-keeper of the team.

#5 Most wins

Jaffer represented Mumbai for a major part of his career and Mumbai has been the most dominant team in the history of Ranji Trophy cricket. So, it’s only obvious that he would have won a lot of matches with Mumbai.

However, when Jaffer moved to Vidarbha in the latter parts of his career, he won the Ranji Trophy with Vidarbha as well which was a huge achievement. Jaffer was involved in a total of 74 wins in his Ranji Trophy career.
