During the early days of cricket, the bowlers dominated the batsman as they find it hard to score a century in ODI’s. Comparing to Test Cricket, ODI is more difficult for the batters as they have to maintain the momentum till the end of the game. Somehow, batsmen like Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli dominated the bowlers by scoring centuries for fun.
Though Kohli is considered to break the record of Sachin’s 49 tons, we should never forget the fact that the Master Blaster played in an era where run-scoring wasn’t easy at all. In this article let us take a look at the 5-star cricketers who failed to score an ODI ton.
1. Misbah-ul-Haq:
Misbah-ul-Haq has never scored a century in his entire ODI career. Also, his numbers in ODI’s are not good when compared to Tests. He has played 162 games for Pakistan and scored over 5,000 runs with the help of 42 fifties that he played at an average of 43.40. His unbeaten 96 at The Oval against West Indies in the 2013 Champions Trophy was his highest score ever. Misbah played mostly at the middle order for Pakistan in all formats of the game.
2. Michael Vaughan:
One of the finest captains for the England cricket team, Michael Vaughan, didn’t score a single ton in his entire One Day career. Vaughan played 86 games for England and has scored 1,982 runs that he played at an average of around 28 with 16 half-centuries to his name. His top score of unbeaten 90 came against Zimbabwe on 5th December 2004 at Bulawayo.
3. Graham Thorpe:
Known as the backbone of the England cricket team, Graham Thorpe hasn’t had an impressive ODI career. Due to batting in the middle-order, Graham did not get enough chances to play a long inning. That is despite playing 82 matches and scoring 2,380 runs at an average of around 38. With 21 half-centuries to his name, Thorpe finished off his ODI career without a century.
4. Dwayne Smith:
The destructive right-handed opener for West Indies in T20s didn’t score a single century in ODI’s. At a time Dwayne Smith was being a regular name in their side but due to lack of consistency, he struggled to find a place in the team and announced his retirement in March 2017. However, Smith managed to play over 100 ODI’s and has scored 1,560 runs that he played at an average of 18.57. His highest score came against India as he got out on 97 at Feroz Shah Kotla in Delhi.
5. Dinesh Karthik:

Dinesh Karthik made his against England in a Natwest Challenge game in September 2004 at Lord’s Cricket Ground. After that, the Tamil Nadu cricketer has played 94 ODIs and scored just 1,752 runs with the help of 9 fifties that he played at an average of 30.20. Dinesh Karthik has nothing to do as India has one of the best wicket-keeper batsman and one of the great captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni behind the stumps.
