6 Crazy Similarities Between Sourav Ganguly And Devon Conway

New Zealand cricketer Devon Conway took the whole cricket fraternity by storm as he gave a stunning performance in his first Test match itself. Devon made a blockbuster entry into the record books as he slammed a double ton in the ongoing series opener against England at the iconic Lord’s cricket ground, London.

The New Zealand left-hander batted amazingly well throughout his knock and brought in his double ton by smashing a six. His knock helped his team post a score of 378 runs in the first innings. However, his epic knock came to an end after he was dismissed due to a run-out.

Meanwhile, Conway broke the records of Ganguly and became one of just six players to have scored hundreds while making Test debut at Lord’s.

Besides this, Conway has quite a few things in common with the former India skipper. Here, in this article, we bring you a list of 6 similarities between Devon Conway and Sourav Ganguly. Have a look:

Same date of birth:

Both the cricketers have the same date of birth. While Sourav Ganguly was born on July 8, 1972, in Kolkata (now Calcutta), on the other hand, Conway was born on July 8, 1991, in Johannesburg. He was born just months before Ganguly made his international debut in Australia.

Left-Handers:

Both the cricketers- Devon Conway and Sourav Ganguly, are left-handed batsmen.

Made their debuts against West Indies:

Both the cricketers made their international debut against West Indies. Sourav Ganguly made his international debut in Australia against West Indies in an ODI on January 11, 1992. Interestingly, Devon Conway too made his international debut against West Indies in a T20 game on November 27 last year.

Made their Test debuts against England:

Besides making their debut against the same team, both the cricketers made their debut in the longest format of the game against the same team, i.e, England. While Ganguly made his debut against England on 20th June 1996, on the other hand, Conway recently made his debut against England and broke the records of Ganguly.

Scored century at Lords on Test debut:

Devon Conway joined a selected group of cricketers by marking his Test debut with a hundred at Lord’s. Conway went on to hit exactly 200 runs in his maiden Test innings. It is already the highest score on debut by a batsman at Lord’s in a Test match. While on the other hand, Ganguly scored 131 against England back in 1996.

Same Debut Cap Number:

Sourav Ganguly’s ODI debut cap number is 84. Interestingly, Devon Conway’s T20I debut cap number is also 84.
